Okay, a dumb question. How to android users send full resolution photos between android users? Is there a native app that handles that? Or does one use WhatsApp, etc. I mean is there something like iMessage that is part of all android version users? One that uses the data channel and not SMS? Or MMS? It's a serious question, not a fanboy one. Sent from my iPhone 5S using Tapatalk Pro
I guess the follow up question is this: if I and friends had all samsung S3, what would I use? Sent from my iPhone 5S using Tapatalk Pro
S Beam on my Samsung or I believe NFC would work. i Message only works for the iPhone. Personally I used Whats app with my iPhone as that worked across multiple platform's. Sent from my Galaxy Note 3.
I know iMessage only works on iPhone. Is there an equivalent for Samsung? I thought S beam was short distance. Just wondering what Android users use to get around the MMS limit. Is is always WhatsApp, or is there an Android data transferred messaging system? Nothing wrong with WhatsApp, etc....just curious. So if I had a Motorola Android and a Samsung s3, how do I sent high resolution photos? Email, WhatsApp...is there a native Android app for messaging? I guess that would be Google Chat???
Huh. No android users left here??? Basically a friend got her first smartphone. All her family and friends are on iPhones. She got an Android. I was trying to explain how if all friends and family had Androids, that would make sense, since she could send high quality photos/videos with the native Android messaging system....and I realized that i don't know what that is. So I see a native app called Hangout (before that was GoogleTalk(?), but other than that, what is the native iMessage equivalent? One that combines SMS and internet messaging? I'm not talking about email routes, or WhatApp. any answers here???
Hangout is the Google's app that combines SMS/MMS/Google Talk functionality, but the way Android works, anyone can write an app that will allow you to share pictures. The most "natural" way is probably Google+, although it's possible that the image gets downsized a bit there. I almost never have to send pictures from the phone to anyone but myself (screenshots) and I use Drive for that. Under those rare circumstances that I do need to send a picture to someone, I just use email. This way there's no limitation and it just sends the files "as is".
Thank you dmapr. For certain, there are many apps on all platforms to send photos. I was looking for one that a neophyte would use...mostly likely one that is tied to SMS already...and is on a device, out of the box. I guess that i Hangout, which came out last year.
That right there is a problem. Different manufacturers may package a different set of apps and even though Google apps are included by default with most versions of Android, Hangouts may've not made the cut until 4.3. GMail is there, guaranteed. The reason I mentioned other apps is that when you're viewing an image you may see a "share" icon. Clicking that icon usually opens a laundry list of apps capable of doing something with the image, which can quickly get overwhelming. GMail has a top-level icon outside in the default gallery app. Of course, there's no guarantee that everyone is using the default gallery app to view pictures... you see where it's going, right?
