Can anyone tell me if the the 8300 alarm will operate with the phone off or in standby mode? In addition, is there more than one alarm setting, i.e weekdays and weekends. Is there a one-button for vibrate (*)? Time to upgrade. Thanks for the info.
I upgraded to the VX8300 a little over a week ago and so far have been happy with the phone. As a few other people have mentioned, the slightly smaller size (compared to the VX8100) is nice - it fits in my pocket quite nicely. The build quality of the phone seems to be very good, and the internal screen is bright and crisp. I have dropped quite a few ringtones on the phone over the past few days and they sound great, although I have noticed that I have to pump up the volume on them quite a bit in my MP3 editor to get them to be loud enough on the phone. No big deal. Two very minor points that I would consider a downside: 1) It no longer appears to be possible to define a shortcut key that will take you directly to "Compose Text Message". I had this option on my VX7000 and found it very handy. 2) I have had to manually turn off the EVDO option in low coverage areas since it will kill the battery in pretty short order trying to lock on to a signal if you are in a fringe area. My girlfriend has the same problem with her 8100, but since she does not use mobile web or any data features I just turned EVDO off and left it off. Her battery life went from maybe 1 full day to about 4 days. I am not sure what you mean by "standby mode", but the alarm will definitely not work if the phone is turned off. The alarm does offer multiple recurrence options (i.e., "Once", "Daily", "Mon-Fri", "Weekends"). Vibrate mode can be activated with the "*" key (same as on my VX7000), and "Silent" mode (all sounds off, no vibrate) can be activated by holding the DOWN volume on the side. Hope that helps.
Thanks for the review. I can't wait to get back to the LG UI soon. I just hope the call retention has improved over the 4400 - from what I have heard on the various forums it is a solid phone.
There are three alarms on the phone. You can set each one to go off once, mon-fri, on the weekends, or daily. also, you can set the phone so that the only noise it will make is the alarm. aka... it won't ring or vibrate when you get a call or a text message, but the alarm will still go off. great if you don't want to be woken up at night by anything but the alarm you set!! Yes, you can hold down the * key to put it in vibrate mode. On the right side of the phone to adjust the volume. Your options there are: high, med high, medium, med low, low, vibrate only, alarm only, all sounds off.
