We have verizon right now and if we find we need more minutes than we have we can just bump up the plan without having to extend the contract or sign a new one. Can you do that with AT&T? Thanks.
I've done that many times with AT&T/Cingular/CellularONE over the years and my contract was never extended. Even better, is if you are running low on rollover minutes you can add extended N&W for a couple of months, then drop it so you can stay on a cheaper rate plan. Its a great option as the plan I'm on is no longer offered, but I have over 1,000 rollover minutes.
Yes. All major carriers have taken the "contract extension" proviso away from upgrading or downgrading plans. They don't want the bad P.R. that went with it in the past, so for this and competitive reasons you can change plans without extending your contract.
Thanks guys. One more question according to this article they are going to start charging $30 for every smart phones data plan. What do they consider a smart phone? My mother wants a phone with a keyboard for texting but that is it. Would any phone with the capability to go online have to have the plan even though she will not be using it? We will be buying the $30 unlimited messaging pack for families. Here's the article: AT&T to require smartphone data plans starting September 6th : Boy Genius Report
Windows mobile, Palm, iPhone, and Blackberry I think. If you get something else I don't think they will require the data plan, but they will still try to sell it to you.
At&t does classify the Samsung Propel Pro as a smartphone/PDA, but if she's interested in just the basic Propel it is not a smartphone. Here is a link to the current listing of smartphones carried/designated as such by at&t. PDA/Smartphones They include the operating systems mentioned by Jay2TheRescue, plus Symbian based Nokias.
