Hopefully I picked the correct area in which to post this question. I've been researching pricing for several TMobile phones (Sidekick 3 and MDA mainly) and find there are many dealers, on eBay and other sites, selling these things for next to nothing with a 2 year service agreement. The pricing and terms of the agreement appear identical to what is shown on the TMobile official website. Has anyone had experience with buying from this type of company? They appear legitimate and their seller ratings (eBay and Yahoo Auctions anyway) are very good for the most part. It's just that the price differences are so huge (i.e. SK 3 from TMobile is around $300; however, from some of these places, it's free plus shipping and handling) with a 2 year service plan. Sounds too good to be true but I thought some of you may have had or know of experiences to share. Thanks, Brad
These prices are largely based on Mail-In rebates, which will take months to process usually, that is if they are processed. I would suggest staying away from them as there's constantly something bad being said about the rebate services.
Thanks for responding. I suspect you are correct - there's no free lunch (or cell phone) probably, at least without major strings attached. Brad
Personally I say buy a HTC TyTN (upgrade version of the MDA) unlocked and go month to month with the carrier. Your best bet is to buy direct from T-mobile, that way you're covered on the warranties and the such.
Thanks. I'll check that one out. As for the month to month thing, do they allow that? Not a option if they'll allow it. Brad
Unfortunately, T-Mobile does not offer any plan without at least a one-year agreement, no matter where you have acquired your handset.
Thanks Matt. It's contract is expired now and on a month to month basis. When a cell contract is in that mode, I suspect it's best to use it as a bargaining advantage to see what can be wrung out of the provider in exchange for an extension. My distrust of these free or cheap 3d party offers seems to be at least somewhat founded, based on the feedback to my original post. Brad
