Hi, I have asked versions of this before, but I think I am getting closer to what I really should be asking. Explanation: I want to switch from ATTWS to VWS when contract up at end of July. I live in Northern NJ and travel to Maine. I thought from Verizon’s network map, I would beed a tri-mode phone to use it in most of Maine (according to the map, most of Maine is not digital) But searching further, I found this map of coverage locators: http://www.verizonwireless.com/b2c/CoverageLocatorController?requesttype=ZOOM LEVEL REGION which indicates that I can use digital in almost all of Maine on the extended coverage(“*Extended coverage provided through agreements with other wireless carriers”). Questions: If I am using the extended coverage area, am I subject to roaming charges?? The area in question on VWS Coverage Map Home Airtime Rate and Coverage area shows digital coverage for a small portion of Maine, and analog for the rest, but as noted above, the Coverage Locator indicates digital service on another carrier’s network. So, if it’s in the home area, but someone else’s digital coverage, would I have to pay roaming? Next: If I do need tri-mode phone (and it has to be clamshell, with external display) would you recommend Audiovox 8600 or 8900 ( I know one has camera and the other doesn’t; don’t really care about that feature; which is the better of the two? And if I can go with all-digital, would you recommend one of the above or the LG 4600 (or 4500)?? or Samsung SCH a 530?????? Many thanks for taking the time to read and respond! :O I appreciate all the help I can get!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Maine if you roam on USCC is CDMA digital. I think you can only use analog on Americas Choice for those markets?
agentHibby, thanks for answering, but I totally didn't understand your reply. Will i be roaming (fees?) onUSC?, it's not that I WANT to use analog, but until I saw the coverage locator (URL on my 1st post) I thought it was my only option for much of Maine Thanx
If your on America's choice--- as long as your phone says Verizon or Extended network with flashing triangle you are fine...no roaming fees and everything like features etc...will work. If it's a solid triangle and says roam... it's 69 cents a minute. you might be roaming on someone else's tower...but verizon might have roaming agreements with them...so you just have to make sure it says EXTENDED network or Verizon network. I have a friend..... herself and her boyfriend have the audiovox 8600 and 8900. They both work okay for them...but they like the 8900 more. Probably because it has more features. Here's search of all verizon phones that meet the criteria you did mention..you can always revise it and do another search. Clamshell, 2nd lcd, tri-mode, verizon....etc... http://www.phonescoop.com/phones/fi...ca_2=y&avr=1&av_1=y&av_2=y&ffr=r&ff_2=y&anr=r And if you go all digital...i have heard better things about the LG 4600 phone than I have the 4500 phone. I've also heard good things about the samsung phones. Ps. the Samsung a650 phone is a tri-mode phone Good luck
hey, I'm in a bit of a similar situation as you, I live in North NJ, and travel to my house in Maine often, I have recently switched to an ATT wireless GSM plan, and get a great signal in both NNJ, and in Maine (in and around Portland, Limerick, Standish, Cornish, Denmark, Bridgton, Lovell Augusta etc.) I found that verizon gave a mediocre signal at best, and I atleast (becuase of the terms of my plan) was subjected to roaming charges. using ATT GSM, i'm able to have a good signal and am NOT subject to roaming. -- i'm jus offering another option, as you already have ATT wireless...this may be completely useless to you, if you already have ATT GSM, and have had no luck...sorry if thats the case, I thought i'd just share my experiances Good Luck, Sabre PS. i believ extended coverage area, entails roaming, it did when i was on verizon (the rules have changed a bit since then) anyway...I wish you the best of luck with whatever you end up with!
I feel like I'm doing this every day. Read the Website, people! T&Cs for Verizon Wireless's Coverage Locator (which sylviecat mentions using and thus checking the box which reads "I acknowledge that I have read and understand the facts listed above...", emphasis added by me): That is final. Read what you say you've read and your question will be answered. And, to answer your question, USCC's digital coverage in Maine is Extended Network, which will cover the state except the Portland and Lewiston-Auburn areas.
whoa! kinda a harsh answer there huh? some ppl (myself included), are horrendously afraid of reading fine print, even so, this is an open forum, dont get so angry man
I just get tired of saying the same things over and over. No, "Extended Network" does not mean that you will get charged. Yes, you can have digital Extended Network. No, IN-Network Calling does not work in most Extended Network areas, but it does in some. Blah blah blah. We need an FAQ.
i agree, an FAQ or a class action suit to make carriers actualy explain things, instead of using their own dialect of newspeak
Class action suit to make them explain things? What more explanation do you want? It's not their fault if you don't read!
theres a huge diffrence between reading and understanding.... just becuase you understand (and I understand) doenst mean others will understand, this forum exists to answer questions....even if they are stupid -- Sabre btw. all corporations speak in newspeak, it would help if they spoke in plain english (an easy to understand example: if you go outside your "friendship area....other charges may apply, espeically if its a blue moon, or your grandmother just blew her nose...or if it happens to be the spring equinox, however charges will not apply if a corporate exec spontaniously combusts at the time of your call.... -- read instead...walk outside this area with your phone, and we'll gouge your eyes out in roaming charges)
