I have service with Nextel by Sprint, my phone is an ic502. My sister has service w/ Verizon, her phone is a Razr. Would it be possible for me to put my sim card in her phone and use it? (I know that I would not be able to use Direct Connect.)

Hi Boberon welcome to WA! It isn't possible to use your nextel sim in your sister's verizon phone. They use two completely different networks, and verizon does not use sim cards. You can only use your nextel sim in another nextel phone.

There are several different networks in use across the country, CDMA (Sprint, Verizon, Alltel), GSM (AT&T, T-Mobile), and iDen (Nextel). CDMA doesn't use sim cards (your phone id is stored in a company database.) GSM does use sim cards, however they arent compatible with iDen. Sorry about the bad news.

Does it make any difference that my phone is a hybrid IDEN / CDMA phone?

Nevermind. I get it now. The CDMA part of my phone doesn't use the sim card.
