Call 611 and request a trouble ticket and a field tech come check out your area. I have gone to customers residence that had similar problems but this was back when we had TDMA and just turned up GSM so it was 2 different technologies.
that's the way i figured it. and the tower think is what att support told me, and my house sits right in the middle of "best area"
Dont go by customer service advice, they have very generic tower maps that have exagerated tower coverage areas. The maps really dont take in account hills dense trees building 850/1.9 etc. If it were me Id complain and ask to have a tech come out and have the tech lay it out straight. Ask if it is on 850 or 1900, if it was on AT&T original network or Cingulars. Ask if it is a OMNI or sectorized site. Tell 611 that you normally had full bars and now have crap and you hear garble. If they dont respond get anyone you know in the area to call in and say the same thing. Multiple complaints will get faster attention and usually signifies to us that work in Engineering that there is a problem at the tower.
we don't have 3G yet but we do have edge, they say 3G here by the end of the year,so with that upgrade being in progress would that be making all these problems? my sister was out here yesterday she is with sprint, with her phone setting next to mine here phone was hold a solid 5 bars and mine was bousing 2-3, just a thought
i have had a trouble ticket open for over a month now they call me once a week, and we go from there they was nice enough to waive my bill last month, and i am greatful, but that still soesn't get the calls in or out. or keep incomming calls going straight to voice mail
If we had more info I could try to help you figure out whats going on. There has to have been some sort of change at the tower. What town did you say you lived next to. I can look it up and see if I can find anything. I wish we knew what the Net10 was picking up. We will be able to tell more when your test is done and you can unlock the Net10 and put your ATT sim in that phone, this will eliminate the theory that your MOTO's are picking up 3G.
sorryforgot, we don't have 3g here, just edge i live in the country, about 15 miles from owensboro,ky,plenty of towers inside the city, the last time i talked to tech support i was told that i was on a tower aross the river in ind. about 10 miles away, and the coverage map show me in the best area with good around me. also that 1 tower serves 3 counties in s.indiana along the river and 2 counties in nw.ky along the ohio river where i live.zip is 42355.also i have been rebooting my phone every morning when i get up, satuday night the phone was setting in the same it sits everyday, day in day out same place, at 10:30pm i was informed by my brother that when he call me,the call went to voicemail and the phone never ring, i call the 24 tech #,she told me to turn the phone off, while she sent it a download,i rebooted the phone, tech give me a test call and it went though like it is suppose to, now this is the weired part,i did not reboot the phone, sunday, monday, or today when i got up.and so far no problems. also both mine and my wife phone, both new razr's both new 3G cards both beep letting me now they have lost signal, i looked at the net 10 phone and it had full bars, where the razr's where showing none, this lasted about 15 sec. then both razr's came back with 2 bars bounching 3, this was friday night.i feel like i have to call both razr's 3-4 time a day to make sure call are getting though, something i never in 16 yrs felt like i had to do with cingular.i really don't feel that the net 10 phone is on the att tower, bcause my bars on that phone is always showing 4-5 bars, and the razr's are showing 2-3 and all 3 phones are on the same table,my sister was out here yesterday she has had nextel for over 5 yrs, when i hask her to put her phone on the table with the rest of the phone's and letting it sit there for about 15 min. her phone was also showing 5 bars.an unexpected test has come up starting at 5 am tues. 7-10, my wife is driving to detroit because her brother is having cancer surgury, there will bw a loy of test calls made on the road and in detroit, to my razr and to my net10 phones from her razr. the test will start at I-64 and st.route 231, then 1/2 way to louisville,ky, then, 1/2 way between louisville,ky and cin,oh,then 1/2 way between cin,oh and dayton, then in dayton, then 1/2 way between day and toleto,oh,then in toleto oh then 1/2 way between toleto and detroit, then in detroit, she will be staying overnight, then the test will be in the reverse comming back, all test calls will be her calling me on both razr and net 10, and me calling her back from both phones, this should be a vary interesting test.believe me i am hoping that the att network and the razr's meet or bet the net 10 service.i guess we'll know by early thursday morning.
wife had to make emergency trip to detroit made test calls to and from detroit this is the results. call where made to and from both razr's on att, from these major city's from home to detroit and back. and 1/2 way between these city's louisville,ky ,ciccin.oh,dayton oh,toledo oh, detroit mi i'm just going to put a long story short. all call's where made while car was moving, travaling on I-75- I-71 - I-64 and state rt 231 and 37 total calls made 26, total calls dropped, 15,total call's unable to connect, or went to her voice mail 4, also said when call's dropped she had no bar's showing 1 of those no bar's showing was right outside downtown cin.oh. as for the net10 service, after a good connect on between the 2 att phone i would call her back on net10,also a good conection, after a dropped call i would call her back on net 10 unable to connect. i have made serveral call to landline's and family and friends on other cell networks with no dropped calls or fail to connect call. also if i may add, my wife has family in canada, over the past 8 years we have driven this route with cingular with no problems many times. by the way all call where made via bluetooth for safty during test. my conclusion is , att keep saying you don't have a big problem, the above say's you do.i guess this is why the att forum has 124 page's at 22 post per page of people all over the contry having network problems.
Well, your NET 10 phone cannot be connected to the AT&T network in your hometown, because like I said, ALL phones would behave the same. On your net 10 phone, from you home town, dial a wrong number of wrong code, like *234 or something like a 5 digit number, and tell us what the recording says. This will answer ALL questions as to whether or not your net 10 phone is using the AT&T network.
I tried looking up your area but its hard to tell where your at. Dobson looks like it has coverage to the Northwest of you but hard to tell. I wonder if that net 10 phone is picking up Dobson? If you dial a wrong number on Cell One you will get a error number like TCG 32 in Michigan or Kentucky is probably KY 32 or what ever the switching center programmed the first letters as.
If he is picking up the Dobson towers in his area & recently his coverage went downhill, is it possible he was roaming on them & with the pending merger they should re-establish this roaming ability & his coverage would improve? Just a theory of course then he would have been flagged as excessive roaming & should have recieved a letter so it may not be the reason either.
Nothing is changed between the two companies since the first announcement. None of the roaming has changed between ATT and Dobson. It would be nice if he could do network selection just to see what it out there.
Yes it would be nice if he could do a networks selection & like I said it was a theory & didn't think anything changed, but I thought somewhere out west they stopped roaming on a carrier recently & that's why I brought it up.
Yah ATT stopped roaming with a company in East Texas called Cellular One of EAST Texas. This company is a mom and pop company that leases the Cell One name from Dobson but has nothing else to do with Dobson.
sorry i haven't posted lately guy's but i have been in and out of the hospital and as some of you may know they keep you pretty much out of it on the meds they give you, so i guess the test ended with post # 38, i really don't feel like doing anything techy to the net10 phone since i'm going to keep it active and if att doesn't shape up in my area then i'm going to port both my phones, all i can say is net 10 out preformed att in all of the test.i hope i can get back up to posting speed soon, but for now it a lot easier laying down then setting at the computer desk.
Wow sorry to hear you have been sick & hope everything works out for the better for you. I guess this is the least of your problems right now.
ATLANTA ATHENS MSA PARTNERSHIP =Cingular ala at&t...the old name for the BellSouth Mobility licenses were listed under in most of the southeast. So it sounds like your NET10 is indeed setup on at&t.
my mistake, i just dialed *234 on net 10, message said, sorry your call can not be complested as dialed, wky PSM
Army1, It sounds like your account is screwed up in the translations table of either the HLR or the switch. You need to call Tier 2 customer support and tell them you what's going on with your account. They should be able to fix it pretty quick by making a few calls with you. Good luck.
Hi Army1 and everyone else. Army, I'm curious as to why you are conducting this test? Thougt it might e becuse AT&T sucks. I had Cingular for the previous 5-6 years with next to no problems the whole time. Now, since the day AT&T took over my service it's one thing after another. The day of the switch in my area all of a sudden I have to dial the area code for local numbers. When I call CSR the "nice" lady puts me on hold about eight times each time she has to talk to the tech people. Checks my records to confirm information and they still show me using the first phone I had way back when. Finally she tells me she doesn't know why I have o dial the area code, maybe it's just a new thing, "but it should make any difference to me because I have nationwide coverage anyway". And all the while she's talking to me or I'm on hold my signal is bouncing bakck and forth between 0 & 3 bars. Now I also have many dead zones where before I only had two, 1/4 mile spots. Over the last couple of months I have had more dropped calls than I ever had with Cingular and that includes driving across country. I still have low signal. My brother and sister-in-law have/had Cingular in Arkansas and they were having the same problems. The CSR's told them to bring in their phone to get a new sim card???? I'm not sure that helped alot because they use the NEW Motorola they added as a second phone most of the time time. Well I'm not happy with the NEW AT&T, but I'm not real confident in the other companys either. I was really happy with Cingular. Now I'm rambeling sorry. Any comments are appreciated
basically i did the test for all the reasons you have given and more, and i'm still having which i'm 100% sure you are also, the test ended after my wife returned from an emergeny trip to canada (i posted the results) i am only keeping the att service because i had just bought and paid cash for 2 new razr phones and i want to try and get my money's worth out of them even if i have to call att daily(which i will) since i'm not on a contract i can port my #'s and leave at anytime, i am keeping my net 10 service (which i use daily because the att call drop thing) and net 10 also roll's over min. as long as your acct is current.my health permitting we will be going to fla.in the first couple of weeks in sept. which i will take my net 10 phone, for backup, att is just not as depenable anymore since att took over, so you really need a backup service with att.as for the test the net10 service won hands down, NO dropped calls, and out of 5 bars i have never fell below 4, as i write this my att service is showing 2 bars and my net 10 is showing all 5. as for the other companys your thinking about i have gotten some real good offer's just for switching from att, anything from waiving the 2 yr contract to one, to 1/2 price for 6 month's, 2 free phones believe me every carrier know's about the att problems and they will work with you if you are wanting to leave. good luck
Still hanging in with "The New AT & T" but still not happy like with Cingular. I did talk with the local Cingular franchise store last month. One of the guys checked my chip(?) not my sim, and told me it was a 32mega somthing and I should go to one of the Corprate Stores in Las Vegs and have them put in a 64mega chip. I have a Nokia 6102. He also told me that my area is utilizing an Alltell or T-mobile tower ( I forget which he said now) and always has. So, I think I'm even more confused. Before I thought I was using Cingular tower and thought my signal went to %^(# because I was now using the New AT&T towers. But it seems I'm using the same, borrowed tower from some other company. Now I have dropped my phone and messed up the LCD screen and have to play with it to light up. But don't want to go buy a replacement if I haven't decided who to or if I want to switch to who......I'm in Mohave County AZ in the Bullhead City, AZ-Laughlin, NV-Needles, CA area. Any suggestions on how to find out which companies have towers in my area or does that even really make a difference as I carry a national coverage plan anyway. Or should I just look for who has the best/most coverage ranging from here to along Interstat 40 towards Arkansas and Kentucky which is where I travel to visit family?.
He did check your SIM & that is what he was talking about with the 32k chip vs the newer 64k ones. I don't know if Alltel has GSM in that area, but if you are roaming I would bet it would be on T-Mobile & if you were roaming most if not all the time, you would have heard something from AT&T about that, My guess is some area's when the alpha tag changed some phones have been camping on the 1900 band vs 850 & if they have both there that's where the problem lies, I don't know if the newer chip will help & I am also sure the phone damage isn't helping you any. You could get a cheap one on Ebay vs going to the store to get a new phone, it may be a cheaper better way to go right now.
I think this is the old Western Wireless GSM area that Alltel got some years ago and keep in use for GSM carriers to roam off of.
