Hi everyone. I'm a Cingular customer, and I'll be going away for college really soon. I was just wondering how good the Cingular coverage is there and its surroundings? I'll be attending Johnson & Wales University in September and I'd like to know before hand if my cell phone is going to be usable or not. Thanks.

Cingular is really good in Providence. Have good service whenever I go there. You will encounter some weak areas outside providence even on the highways but not many. But then again, even Verizon has weak spots there too. To my surprise, T-Mobile is excellent in providence. Probably better than Cingular even with no 850! Definitely much better than Nextel and Sprint (sorry Larry).

I have always been able to roam on T-Mobile in most of the Northeast. I think roaming on T-Mobile is only barred in the NYC metro area.

Rhode island and ct coverage are the reason I said goodbye to cingular and just paid 2 lines of etf. Verizon is the king of the NE. Cingular had a 5 year old with a crayon draw those maps.

Trust me, it isn't. Even if you have the best coverage in an area, service is never 100% perfect with any carrier, so there are always one or two people for which the best service is not good for them for any number of reasons. This is why they make blanket statements.

I live south of Providence and have both Verizon and Cingular right now. Coverage with Cingular around Providence is good, but Verizon is the way to go in RI. With Cingular you will drop calls driving down 95. Also, Cingular is bad for the "All Circuits Busy" message.

The last time I was using my Cingular phone at Providence Place Mall I would drop calls walking from one end to the other of the mall.

T-Mobile is good but once you leave the city forget it.

BTW, be sure to get down to Cranston and eat at Twin Oaks, good eats for cheap.

Well I guess I'll be okay. I'll find out for myself because I'm visiting the campus the second week of March for a tour. I've never been outside of the southwest part of the U. S. So this is going to be interesting, I can't wait though.

How can someone continually make stupid statements like this and be considered a "senior Member" on these boards?

OK people...calm down and quit crapping on this thread. Take your VZW vs. Cingular debate to private messages if you must.

i don't consider it a VZW vs Cingular,
    not defending any carrier.
VZW is no more reliable than other carriers in NYC Metro.
Most reliable depends on where you are.
T-Mobile is most reliable in NYC Metro but Least reliable in
    other places.

    Ahem.

When you post a comment like "$CARRIER is stupid", it only reduces your credibility. This is not MySpace, it's not a bunch of teenagers in a Yahoo! chat room.

We don't allow ad hominem (personal) attacks here.

Regardless of what you think is happening, take it to private message, or you will be booted out on your :censored:es for three days, capisce? This goes for both of you.

Ve haff vays uff makink you comply, ja?

I experienced the same problem with Cingular in Providence Place Mall -- unless you were on the top level near the skylights, you could forget it. It was great everyplace else, including Federal Hill, not to mention Warwick and Woonsocket (pronounced "warrick" and "hobbiton", respectively). :p

We're Giving this Tiltle Most Reliable in this Area
    (Providens, Rhode Island) to T-MOBILE.
VZW & Cingular Users in this thread says its T-Mobile.
Andy Introduce that word in this Forum,
Andy we don't use BAD words here.

Ok jones. You are getting progressively worse. Every time you post it makes less sense. Don't forget you now have at least 5 mods watching you! ;)
