I got a TF card this weekend and have been having some troubles transferring mp3's to my phone. I have got 2 mp3's to succesfully play on my phone. Most of the time when I transfer files from the TF card to my phone it says that the transfer has failed. Sometimes it will take a couple seconds before the transfer fails and other times it will show up immediately. I have also gotten some mp3's to my phone, then went back and cut them down to 30 secs, then tried to put them back on my phone to not have them transfer over. I imagine that this is all due to the format of the mp3's Im transferring. I was curious what format or particular codec/s work on the v710. Any programs out there that were particularly better than others to edit/convert mp3's that are compatible? Also what are everyone else's success rates with getting MP3's to work on thier phones? Do they transfer over every time? Do you have to attempt each a couple times? Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.
Once I get the files on the tf, I haven't had much trouble. I do have the PC do some weird stuff with it though, it won't let me delete files sometimes, but then the next time I look at it they will be gone, or it will rename the files with a bunch of crazy symbols.
I have had some problems with files between the transcard and the PC. I found if I hold the TF card tightly in the SD adapter, it goes pretty smothly. I wish the card would clip into the adapter or something. Has anyone else noticed this?
My TF card fits very snugly in my adapter. I just can't get the damn mp3's to go to my phone from the card. Phone reads the MP3's alright, even playing them off of the card in some occasions.
Psted - what are you trying to do, exactly? If you're trying to use the songs as ringers, they need to be encoded and timed properly. (I don't remember the exact settings, but they're posted elsewhere.)
Critic - I wanted to use the mp3's as ringers. I couldn't even get the mp3's on my phone, let alone set them as ringers. What timings/codec's are you talking about? Does ANYONE have an idea where to get this info?
For ringers, they need to be about 30 secs and renamed with an mid extension, put them in the shared/ringtones folder then select move them to phone
I think you only have to rename it if you are e-mailing the mp3 to your phone. I have put a couple of mp3's onto the phone using the TF card successfully. I didn't rename either one of them. They were both about 30sec long and encoded at 40kbps. As far as other full length mp3's, I just leave them on the TF and they play great on the phone. Sounds supprisingly good through the speaker.
The only problems i've had with transfering mp3s is when i take a .wav convert it to an mp3 and then rename the file, for some reason that wont work. but when i just convert it and don't change the name then it works no problem. as far the TF card in the SD adapter i havent had any problems at all. I bought one made by Sandisk and it fits very snuggly in the adapter. Ptsed, you might have a problem with you actual phone or maybe the card. I can say the Sandisk works very nicely. And yes you only need to change the file to .mid when your emailing it which is more trouble then its worth. if you need a program to convert or cut mp3's to put on you phone just got to cNet's www.download.com
is anyones transflash card freezing the phone when you try to switch storage device? it happens only when i'm doing mp3s
My phone froze when transferring MP3's from the TF card once. It was the only succesful transfer that I've had, lol.
i had that problem when i first tried, all i did was bring the TF card folder up on my PC and formatted the disk and i havent had any problems since.
I'm on a Mac. If you have Quicktime Pro, you should be able to do any editing/reencoding there. The interface is a little crude, but it'll work just fine. I don't remember where I saw it, but I feel like I remember reading something about OSX dropping an extra (normally hidden) file in any directory it touches on the card. It might have been on HoFo. I'll see if I can find it.
Someone please help!!!! Ok so I have the V710, the san disk transflash and the san disk SD reader. I transfer MP3s to the transflash via the sd reader/writer, I then insert the transflash back into my phone, only to find out the first 3 seconds of the song works before it starts to skip and freeze. I have tried cutting the MP3 to smaller sections, dropping it down to 40 kbps and a few others...nothing seems to work. Any ideas?
Did you power the phone down before you put the TF card back in? Remember that the TransFlash is only designed as "semi-removable" and as such is not hot-swappable, so you need to power the phone down before removing or inserting the card.
Ok, I think I speak for all of us...CRITIC stop it already, the information never stops! I am one of the many that bow down to you now. MP3s and Ringtones now work perfectly. I'm not sure how you do it but keep up the good work. Thanks a TON!
Silverado, thanks for the info. I think your on the right track, this is what I have found...It has to be 40 kbps in order to play as a ringtone...if that is a .mid file you are right on. I don't know what kbps the .mid files play at but all the 40 kbps work for me.
i read on phonescoop about the .trash files that OSX puts onto any removable disks. the confuse the phone and make it freeze up. They had a script posted to so that u could clear the. trashes and eject the tf card at the same time.
If you're doing the transfer via transflash and the reader you do not need to change it to .mid. If you're doing it through vzwpix.com you have to change it to .mid, all you have to do is open it in any kind of editing software and re-save it under the songs name followed by .mid. MP3s will work for ringers.
Odd, because when I send a .mid file to my phone, I got a got a midifile.txt file that read, this file was dropped... How exactly do you send a mid file to mynumber@vzwpix.com without loosing the attachment... Has anyone else experienced this? I was using really short midi files, not renamed mp3's so it's not the size that is the problem...
OSX puts invisible files (ones whose names begin with a period) in several places on removable (and non-removable) media. ".DS_Store" wil appear in any directory you open (it tracks things like icon placement on the desktop). However, I've used my transflash to move wallpaper to my V710 from an OS X system, and I saw it create the .DS_Store file in several places, but the phone didn't seem to care. I've had no problems with freezes from that (the phone will reboot if you page through the wallpaper directory too quickly, but it did that before I bought the transflash card). There are utilities (like File Buddy) you can use to delete the invisible files if they bother you (or you can do it from command line using Terminal, but that may not work for the top-level directory).
I haven't had a chance to mess around with the TF card yet (I need to order one), but you should be able to format it on-board the phone.
When you put the TF card in the phone for the first time and then power the phone up, it formats the TF card automatically for you.
