I tried making calls while in Boston yesterday and the Verizon recording told me that Outgoing calls while Roaming are restricted and can not be made on the Verizon network... I live in northwest Ct. I would dial the number: 1-xxx-xxx-xxxx and then wait for the recorded message to add the # after the number and I re-dialed :1-xxx-xxx-xxxx# But here is the strange thing, I tried calling my wife at home and she heard the phone ring and saw my cell # on her caller I.D. but once she answered the phone, the call was disconnected and the recording from Verizon would play on my end. Any idea why this is happening to me? I followed the instructions, over and over and kept getting the same message. Thanks
Well, I called Alltel support and they opened up a support ticket and the guy in Tech support said someone would call me after checking to see if there is a problem with the network and now I'm waiting.
Let us know what you find out. I like the prepaid plan but have not tried it in an area of Verizon coverage.
UPDATE I have called Alltel Technical Support 3 times since Thursday, including my latest, last night. They keep telling me that I have to wait for "Roaming Tech Support" to look into this "Support Ticket"...And that there could be up to a 7-10 day wait... This is totally not acceptable...I have needed to place calls while roaming and will need to again over the upcoming long weekend. I have a very small area here in N.W. Connecticut that is not roaming and after I drive a few miles to the east towards Hartford, I can't make calls now... I am running out of patience with Alltel!
You have prepaid right? You can try putting this as your phone book number entry and press send... 5556667777w15556667777# (5556667777 being the phone number you want to dial) This supposedly works for both roaming and Alltel coverage. Compliments of HATMAN. Although if there is a network glitch then it still may not work. It takes time because they likely have to work with VZW/Sprint to determine the cause.
Yes pre-paid...I will try this tonight... Why the W? Isn't that the number 9 on the phone? Am I missing something?? thanks
The W is a wait. You have to use the Options to put it in there when you enter the numbers. You dial the number, wait for the message from verizon and then hit send. This may not solve your problem though... I had weird stuff like this happen while double dialing on Verizon when I had prepaid. Sometimes you just have to try several times before the call finally goes through.
And your minutes get chewed up while you keep trying! I did get through once in 11 tries while on the road yesterday...I thought the problem was fixed but apparently not...
I have used Simple Freedom in MA, with a CT Alltel number (same system). I usually have problems double-dialing on Verizon, as well. Sometimes it works, sometimes I never get the redial message, and sometimes I get authentication error messages. Sprint is even more difficult to access, than Verizon.
That's the truth! Alltel still has some kinks to work out on their prepaid. Maybe CS can credit your account if you call and complain.
Well I guess it was finally kind of fixed...Well at least I can make calls now, but at times it still takes 2 or 3 attempts before I can get through back home. I complained to customer service and I got $5.00 credited back. Guess its better then nothing. I also programmed the speed dial that was recommended here and thats a godsend. To be honest, the plan is good, but the coverage here is questionable in Connecticut...I get less dropped calls when I'm roaming than I do when I'm in the network. My bother-in-law maintained several strong bars on his phone with Cingular while mine was dead in several areas while we were together last week traveling within the Alltel network here in N.W. Connecticut. I'm not sure if I will stay with Alltel. I'm thinking about my options.
