I've have had some iPhone applications that will print documents, web pages, and photos from the iPhone directly. But they required having a small application on a host PC also on the same wifi network. It needs to be up and running all the time. And you need to run their Email application or web browser in addition to the iPhone native ones. I think BB's have a similar application now. I recently downloaded a new iPhone application (Print Magic) that will print directly to a networked printer, or to a printer that is 'print shared' (wired or wirelessly) by a Macintosh computer. It allows me to take any text that I can copy and paste to print, including web url's and and photos. It supports about 500 types of printers, and they don't need to be wireless or BT printers. In my case, my printer is connected directly (USB) to my Airport Express WiFI router. I can print from my iPhone selected text from my email applications, photos, spreadsheets, maps etc, directly to the printer. Pretty neat and I've been looking for something like this for a while. I had trouble setting it up first using their free trial version to see if your printer is compatible. They gave me a free upgrade to the full version ( $6.99) and helped me get it to work. It required that I update my printer to the latest CUPS drivers. Sweet. Thought that I'd share. P.S. For what it is worth, I now have 60 applications on my iPhone. Perhaps others have more. I enjoy nearly all of them.
Printing from the phone is nice. Back when I had winmo, I was able to use the wireless printing system on campus. I could save a word document to the phone, and print it through the browser, all without needed a laptop. THAT was great.
Actually, I just sold the Pre on ebay tonight. I swapped it out for a Blackberry Tour in late December. I just got so tired with the crap battery life and the patches and all that. Always wanted a Blackberry, so I picked up a tour on the cheap at Sprint.
I didn't know that. I never understood why RIM BB world CDMA phones lack WiFi. Is the Verizon Storm 2 the first and only one? Are there any on Sprint?
The Storm 2 does have wifi. The tour 2 that is coming out soon will have wifi as well. Currently, the new curve has wifi.
Thanks for the information. Good to hear that. I can't imagine going to a smartphone without Wifi, after having one.
Yeah. It's not that big of a deal, i generally have EVDO coverage everywhere I am. Actually, until TODAY, the wifi at my school pretty much sucked, so I didn't use it anyway (on my phones at least). If I still had a phone with wifi, I would probably use it more. Maybe when I pick up the Tour 2.
