This sounds like they are going to do away with these for the Pay as you Go plans or update the fees, I do agree they are no good for a smart phone that would be pretty dumb
with Pay as you go you have to call in to add on the "features". its all al-a-carte. not reeally a plan at all and everything is prepaid, generally with cash in stores, and so once you just have a sufficent balance to cover the feature your adding, they subtract for what your adding and then you can use it for that time period of 30 days or till whenever you use up your balance i guess. the reason 1mb or 5mb is not offered for smartphones is bc of the large amount of data that they can pull easily would exceed that no problem and they are trying to avoid those types of confrontations i think. so its none or unlimited for most smartphones.
Monkeybrain, here is another wrench. . at&t does have a soft limit on "unlimited". Is 5 GB. (Ok Eric don't deny this ), atleast on the regular plans probably more to discourage tethering than anything else. They don't penalize you but try to put you on the right plan. I use my Treo for web browsing all the time (but no tethering) and the maximum I could do was 0.3 GB. So for me it is unlimited for for all practical purposes.
Yes they do have the soft limit o the 5GB. As to the lower priced media plans for PYG they stil appear for me like I qouted in the prior post.
Wirelessly posted (Treo 750: Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows CE; IEMobile 7.6) UP.Link/6.3.1.17.06.3.1.17.0) hf1khal thanks, I have good teachers that are teaching me the at&t nuances. All data plans that you defined appear for me on the Pick Your Plan but no data plan shows up on the Pay As You Go. This is on the Treo refurb.
All I can see are accessories now I did check on both before and I did the same now and all are gone.
The Media Net packages on PYP are still available by clicking on the " See all Media Net Value Packages" in this link: Get Started - Wireless from AT&T, formerly Cingular
Charlyee, and Fire14, The PAYG Media Net plans are still available, and according to the sales rep. who I spoke to last night at the store, AT&T has no plans to stop selling either one of the two MN packages or the Text packages. He informed me that there are still a lot of prepaid customers that sign up for both of these add ons. He also did not know why they weren't listed on the website, but was able to show me that they do still appear on their latest PAYG Brochures. Customers should be able to select these packages from their "On Line Account Management" on AT&T's website, or by calling into Go Phones CSD as Eric had mentioned earlier. Note: If you click on the "Brochure" tab at the bottom of the page in the following link, you will be able to see both the Text, and Media Net packages listed there: Get Started - Wireless from AT&T, formerly Cingular
yea there is a 5gb soft limit. i think all it means tho is that after that they start monitoring/slowing your speed and eventually you get black listed for an ET
Monkeybrain, I think the only way you can be sure is to actually be in the US and talk to CS yourself. In theory it is possible but at&t seems to be changing data situations daily. Good luck to you. Excuse Me???? I had the 5Mb plan with my Blackjack, it downloaded E-Mail every hour, updated weather every four and I used it for posting wirelessly on WA from time to time. I never went over, and the only reason I changed it to unlimited was because I was going on a two week vacation without my laptop and didn't want to suffer WA withdrawl. Dumb??? Geez. Now my links from yesterday don't work either. Thanks Ellen
It could be they are keeping it hidden on the site because they are looking to do away with it and have people pay per use, being the web site is updated more often then the brochures this "Maybe" the case or they are still updating the site to include it, I remember some features not showing on the site but calling would allow you to still get it as they were changing it or phasing something out. Now Now Charlyee, let me ask you something now that you have unlimited how much data do you use a month vs once in a while posting, getting your email & checking the weather? I am sure you are using way more then 5MB a month now & you may have been watching your usage to make sure you didn't go over too much But seriously, do you think with the advances with web sites & the way things are being pushed for data usage that today vs then you could go over the 5MB a month easier then when you had the Blackjack? I can see it going over the 5 easier now then almost a year ago, but the biggest thing is how a person plans to use the phone & how much surfing & other things they plan on doing. For me I have a 1MB and barely use the phone because of the smaller screen & not thinking about using if for more things, but if I had a smart phone I can see me using it a whole lot more for surfing, email & whatever other things I find I want to do. I do wish they offered the 5MB for my phone since then I would use it more for surfing ect... I do agree I may have been harsh with the "Dumb" part because everyones usage is different so in that sense I am sorry.
I can tell you that whe I use the Tilt my monthly data usage is way over 100 MB and if I try to access and do the same fom the BB well my usage there is under 10MB and rarely goes over that with the BB. In the past 4 days I have been using the Tilt and I can tell you that so far the total data used is 14MB. I wish MS finds a way to compress data in a way that is simmilar to the BB system but if they do that would mean that they will more likely be infringing on the RIM patent
Wirelessly posted (Treo 750: Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows CE; IEMobile 7.6) UP.Link/6.3.1.17.0) Tom, first of all I was just teasing you so absolutely no need to say sorry. Secondly, you are right my data usage is now around 0.1 GB. I would have gone back to the 5MB if I still had the Blackjack, the screen was too small & the browser slower Actually if I used my WiFi at home I can stay within 5MB with my Treo also. If & when I get the WiFi enabled Treo I will try it again. My data & messaging is kind of like people's income, the more you get the more you spend I am glad at&t offers the smaller data plans, even though technically not for the Smartphones, I choose my PDAPhones based on the PDA capabilities & the web browsing is just a very nice bonus that comes along with it. The E-Mail is the only must for me. I hope we didn't drive the OP away by discussing at&t's confusing data plans.
