I did and still do Airb and now Nextel. :) Nextel seems to work good here, so did Cingular but i was getting real irritated with the voicemail and "can you hear me now" issues. Perhaps it was because i was on the old At&t side but i just felt it was a waste of money to buy a new Cingular phone and have less minutes for what i paid for previously. Did i mention i was also irritated with them? lol :lmao:

Totally understandable. I don't enjoy paying for something that isn't meeting my needs (Verizon in my case). I hope integration doesn't cause problems here....

I know in my county Nextel is in the process of the rebanding of the emergency radios, so that could be what's going on with the coverage issues in this part of the country.
I haven't been experiencing too many issues with them since I have had them the last 3 weeks, but know it may be coming.

Wow, Fire, since when do you have Nextel? How come you quietly decided to sign up with them?

Hi guys! :) Well so far Nextel is working pretty good (*knocks on wood*) only thing that annoys me is text messaging! I can send a text to another carrier and they will receive it right away but i'm lucky if i receive one back from them even though they sent it. I've tried sending pics too but seems that they only receive the text part of the message but not the pic attachment. Go figure! Why offer people text and pic bundles if you can't even use the feature? :loony: It's a good thing i took the "pay as you go" option. lol Other than that like i said no complaints. :D

Well Nextel has been known/is known to have SMS problems. This is a known issue with them. Glad everything else seems to be working!

I got them about 3 weeks ago from the county, I was made a team leader on the fire & explosion investigation task force & all team leaders as well as the county mutual aid chiefs have them.
I use to have them when I had my towing & recovery business as well & they are very useful when they work.
It is one of the reason's I like the idea that Cingular is coming out with PTT, it could be good to have even with my family.

Maybe with Cingular coming out w/ PTT it will be actually useful as I find many places, even in urban areas that Nextel just doesn't work, but Cingular works almost everywhere I go.

I don't know if Nextel's prepaid is the same as Sprints but I found the problem with prepaid is your coverage is not as vast because you cannot roam off the network so it is hard to tell if the particular carrier would be the right choice.

Here in MA. we use Nextel in our trucks and there are way too many holes in their coverage and as others have pointed out rural areas are Nextel's weak spot. It will be interesting to see how the merger works out for the two (hopefully for the better) those that I know who have Sprint are somewhat happy but their one complaint is they keep saying they are going to build out their network but never do.

There is no roaming on Nextel's network period. If you have a Nextel phone and it works, you're on their network. Nextel is the only carrier operating an iDen network in the US

Congrats on your new position Fire! I'm sure this will be fun for you. You and Shoresguy can have a nice little chat :D

I've never personally used Nextels, but they can be useful for businesses and emergency operations when they work.

Lol Andy, im glad Nextel works as good as Verizon and Cingular here. They all have pretty much the same dead spots so i can't really complain. Another good thing is they are adding new towers too so that's always a plus! They added 1 in a certain area last month and will be adding 2 more this month in other areas as well. (or atleast they say they are. lol)

Thanks Andy, as for when they work they are very useful, even with the dead spots they work better then the trunk system we have in the county, I know between my cell, the Nextel & 2 way radio I should be covered throughout the county with some type of communications.
