I wandered into a VZW store today to play with the new K1M. Menu layout seems similar to the RAZR, and the CSR said the features were identical (he wasn't sure on battery life, but thought they would be pretty comparable). Essentially, the difference is in size. The two are almost exactly the same height. The KRZR is quite a bit smaller width-wise (which results in an appreciably smaller screen), but is also a smidge thicker. The price difference is $150. I'm wondering what people think - which one would you go with?
I went and looked at the KRZR today at Alltel. It is a nice looking phone with many bells and whistles but the cost is to high for my blood. I'll stick with my RAZR and hope that the prices will come down later.
If you need a media player, go with the KRZR. Sound quality on the KRZR is also much better than the RAZR. I really, really like the KRZR. I like the RAZR, don't get me wrong, but I think a phone like the v600/v620 or v710/e815 is better for your money. I use a RAZR occasionally with my T-Mobile service but most of the time, I stick with my v620 because it has better sound quality and better reception. So far, though, of all the phones Alltel has offered recently, the KRZR is tops.
I fell for the KRZR, activated it today and Whoa...was I dissappointed! This is probably my worst phone mistake in history. The signal strength is dismal compared to other Moto phones. It drops signals all over town where my trusty e815 works like a charm. I deactivated it tonight...12-hour trial and its history. I guess if you want a media/music player that occassionally works as a phone, its okay. But as a daily phone, its horrible.
I disagree... I get better service on the KRZR than I do on my RAZR. Certainly, the reception isn't going to be as good as the e815. The e815 has an external, extendable antenna and it's larger and thicker than the KRZR. I've found the sound quality on the KRZR to be better than the RAZR and even better than the v710/e815. I think, perhaps, you expected too much... you can't have everything in one phone, unless that phone is the v620.
I always ask to look at friends phones to look at the signal. Out of all of them I don't think the E815 has ever been beaten (Never seen a v620). I'm going to hold onto that phone until it absolutely wears out. The reception can't be beat. If that's what you're looking for I would still recommend the E815 over the RAZR or KRZR. I've not had a chance to try out the KRZR as far as sound quality goes but if it beats out the E815 it must be very good. The worst thing about the RAZR is it just has a weak feel like it would break apart if dropped. But that may not be true.
I went ahead and got the KRZR. Have been very busy, so I haven't had a chance to fully test it, but it seems to work well so far. It definitely picks up more of a signal than my LG. Occasionally, it will show no bars, but calls have not been affected yet. The audio quality is excellent, and the phone's length makes it comfortable for talking. My wife likes the RAZR, so I will probably get her one this weekend and have a direct comparison. I don't think it feels flimsy (I actually think it feels more solid and well-made than my LG, which always reminded me of a toy), though I don't plan on testing this by dropping it . . .
Trust me, I've dropped mine many times and haven't broken it yet, and it only scratched once from being dropped. -Jay
I'd have to disagree. From my tests the best GSM model released has been the V551. I haven't found any models with better RF. The only thing it lacks is a media player and a memory card slot. -Jay
Same here. I dropped mine in the parking lot at work and got a few nicks in the case but that was it.
The v620 and v551 are essentially the same phone, at least from a transmitter standpoint (they both have the same FCC ID.) I'm sure the differences in housings, etc. make a difference but I prefer the case of the v600/v620 series phones to that of the v551. That said, you're absolutely right about a dedicated media player/memory card slot. It would be nice if they could cram all the stuff from the KRZR K1 into a v620 case with the same or better reception, call it the v666 HLGN and release it only to me.:browani:
Indeed they are. I would still rather have a GSM KRZR over a RAZR and iPod Nano or iPod Shuffle because the KRZR has an external speaker you can use to listen to music and it has stereo Bluetooth, so you can use headphones without wires and without an adaptor. I know that a KRZR can't hold as many songs as a Nano or Shuffle but that's what SD cards are for.
Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows NT 5.0; Google Wireless Transcoder) True. Ill stick to my v3m as i have an mp3 converter
I'll stick with my Razr for now as it suits me perfectly and I don't mind carrying around an iPod (I have 'em in four different sizes). I'd sure hate to try and make a call only to find my battery didn't have enough juice 'cause I was listening to music on my cell. Still that Krzr is one nice lookin' phone, who knows what the future will bring.
I agree. With as much as I use my phone (1,100 - 1,600 mins/mo & usage as a BT modem daily), a media player would cause the phone to not last a full day unless battery technology makes a quantum leap. I do not want to go back to the "old" days around 2,000 or 2,001 where I had to plug my phone in every 6 - 8 hours or it would die. -Jay
I had a friend who dropped his V3, something broke on the hinge. He was able to locate a guy who could order the replacement parts and fix it which he did. I don't think the V3 feels flimsy at all....but one thing I notice, and I think it is something with my battery door, when I am pushing the buttons or navigating the menu, it feels like the battery door is not closed tight...kind of makes a squeek noise...near the top of the battery door where the clasp is. Probably my only complaint. I have wondred if a new battery door would fix it. I agree about the V551, that was my first BT phone. What I liked about it was, I didn't have th hack the phone to increase the earpiece volume.
I have noticed that also... my brother broke one of the "hooks" at the top of the battery compartment so his RAZR (which he has given to me) doesn't close completely. I'm working right now to swap out the back part of the case with a disabled Cingular RAZR but I don't have a T3 driver. I took the phone half apart this morning and had to put it back together so I won't lose anything until I can get a T3 driver. Even on the intact battery door, it doesn't seem closed all the way. Kinda weird. The KRZR K1m's battery door is also a little loose and slides a couple of millimeters to each side.
That T3 is hard to find. I walked into Radio Shack once figuring that is something they would have, even if I had to by a whole mini set, but they didn't have it. -Jay
