Could someone please help me with a voicemail access number with AT&T for the 856 area code? It would be GREATLY appreciated. I've tried 908 463 0020 and apparently my number isn't on that system. Thanks

If you reset the phone to default, the voicemail number will be be set correctly. Alternatively, enter ##002#[SEND].

I had a similar problem with my Mom's phone. Call 611 and have them reset your voicemail.

The voicemail deposit number will be set correctly when you enter ##002#[SEND], but the voicemail retrieval number will be not.

    who told you that?

##002# send is an opcode that removes any call forwarding ****except for VM****... it will not in any way adjust amend or change your VM deposit number...

to obtain the correct VM retrieval number you need to call customer care...

VM deposit number is the one that the calls should be forwarded to for the VM to work. In response to ##002# AT&T will not just remove the call forwarding , it will reset call forwarding to default — so while it does not change the VM deposit number, it will restore forwarding to the VM deposit number.

You're correct about the VM retrieval number.

I'm quite correct about the opcode too...

there are several types of call forwarding...

call forward immediate... any incoming calls are forwarded to another number

call forward busy ... forward to another number if you are on the line (sometimes called no answer transfer)

call forward conditional... will ring and after x number of rings forward to another number

    and of course voicemail...

if there is a forward number entered (from any type) it overrides the VM the VM deposit number is still there...just overidden

making assumtion about opcodes and how they react to any given system could have adverse effects in some situations... in this case the ##002# send code will only remove all call forward numbers with the exception of the VM deposit number

All those options (other than immediate) are set by default to forward to VM (you also missed the out of reach option).

You can try the following experiment (I have): change all call forwarding options except immediate to forward to numbers other than VM, then verify that it's indeed the case. Afterwards dial ##002# and check your call forwarding — you'll note that all the call forwarding has been reset back to default, which is the VM. The number you expect to be "still there" has been replaced by the VM deposit number.

Also please note that this treatment of ##002# may be AT&T specific — the "official" description of the code is to cancel all call forwarding, not reset to default.

My new AT&T VM changed from the old 908 area code to this #: 201-310-3747
    Give this a try.

The voicemail deposit number is set by the SIM card based upon the wireless number there. The only time it is not is if you put in a different number yourself. Some people put in their own number to try to get mobile to mobile for voicemail retrieval. Resetting the phone to default removes any personal phone settings.

My point was that the OP was asking for a retrieval number, not deposit.

    my point on your post...

the ##002# send will not restore a retrieval number...

that op code disable call forwarding only

if the retrieval number is incorrect or not present in the phone to begin with the opcode wont change anything

I have quoted all the relevant posts for your convenience and highlighted the pertinent information — I never said anything about retrieval number being reset on ##002#, if I have — please quote me.

There you go again, confusing deposit and retrieval numbers. ##002# will reset the deposit number, but will not do anything for retrieval number.

The deposit number is the number that the phone needs to forward the call to for it to go to voicemail. If the ##002# resets the call forwarding to default, that means that the call forwarding will be set to the deposit number.

    3. Press and hold 1 to access your voice mail the old fashioned way
    4. Check your messages
    5. End the call to voice mail
Using another phone call your iPhone and leave a message
    Option 2
    1. Launch the Settings app
    2. Select General
    3. Select Reset
    4. Select Reset Network Settings
    5. Allow the iPhone to reboot
