I'm about to but a new cellphone (my old one was stolen this week) and I need your help. All the phones I'm leaning toward are Motorola - the Mx220, V710, and perhaps the V3 razor. However ALL of them have the anoying trate of turning the blue light under the number keys OFF after just a few seconds. Long batery life is worthless to me if I have trouble SEEING to dial! Can you tell me how to solve this problem? The people in the stores are clueless. Thanks
Set your backlight settings to 60 seconds and if you want your display to be lit longer set it to 2 minutes. Also looks like you are looking for GSM phones from what i see on your list of phones except for the v710 which is a CDMA which would not be comatable with Cingular.
Also, when you get one of those Motorola's, turn the battery conservation off as it turns the keypad's backlight off in areas that sometimes aren't even that dark.
Thanks, all - this sounds like what I've been looking for! My goal is to allow the keypad backlight to stay ON for as long as I have the phone fliped OPEN. (Just like all the other brands of phones do - and even Motorolla used to.) I assume that with "conservation OFF" this is the behavior I will get. From reading the downloaded manuals this is called different things and located in different places. In the Mx220 it's "Configuring Power Management" in "Start > Settings > More > Power Management" In the v710 its in " (key at top-center with four stacked bars?) > Settings > Initial Setup > Battery Save" Thanks to all again!
Well, yesterday I came to terms with a very nice guy in a Cingular company store for two MPx220's. They weren't to sure about the phone being very good as they have just been discontinued, as well as some possible holes in the cell area I will be using. Still it's worth a try, and I can always bail-out within 30 days if things don't work out. I'm also keeping my eye on the free V710 offer from Version, and will of course keep my Version account paid and active untill I'm sure. (I just found a similar offer for the MPx220's on line also ... Oh well ) Thanks again for pointing me toward the solution on the keypad lighting issue. Without this info I probably would have tried something else - like a tincan and lots of string.
It is under Menu>Settings>Initial Setup>Battery Save Turning it off means that the keypad's backlight will stay on with the screen (at least thats what it does on my v600).
Also, you're welcome arklab. I'm glad I could help ya! But I also heard of some MPx220 issues. Like the software slowing down and a quiet earpiece. Also, I personally hate Windows so it's enought I have to have it on my computer, let alone my phone lol.
I know what it does, perhaps the confusion is that on some Motos it's called "display time out" and not "battery save". Oh and you're welcome Arklab.
Oh and btw Arklab, the "key at top-center with four stacked bars" is called the menu key/button. Just thought I'd tell you so you don't have to say all of that next time lol.
I'm not sure about the models you mention but my V710 for Verizon has a feature where the keypad is light sensitve and will light up only when needed. I have not had a problem with keypad light.
