When I got my new Samsung A500, I was pretty excited about the potential to access the "wireless internet"

I even looked up a couple of cool sites to try out, but when I tried to visit them on my phone, they couldn't load. So I'd like to check my understanding... Please correct any false statements below and answer what questions you can...

    1) I can't use my phone to go to just any old WAP site. wap.hollywood.com and wap.google.com (sites I'd read were good ones) will not load. What kind of sites should I be looking for? WML only, as in name.wml?

    2) The subset of the internet included with PCS Vision service is TINY. For example, I see no way to look up movie showtimes, unless I find and manually enter a URL. This is actually still stumping me, I can go through the "search" to google and get to movie listing pages, but they are a nightmare to navigate. Isn't there an easier way to get movie listings?

    3) I can only assume Sprint will be adding to the sites I can get to through their preset menus. And maybe they'll even add a way for me to customize my menus on their website, but as of now I see nothing at all on the PCS Vision website that lets me change any wireless web settings.

    4) Any recommendations for good WML sites that will actually load on my phone? Favorite portals or other sites?

Thanks a lot for any help you can provide. For now it seems I actually have less functionality than was available with the older wireless web Sprint offered. I hope I'm just missing something here...

Others can correct me if I'm wrong (I'm sure they will!), but if your phone supports WAP you should be able to access any WAP site.

I have the Sanyo 4900 on Vision and I have searched through the web to find most wap sites will still work. For that google search try using http://wapsearch.google.com. If that don't work go into your menu and select search, that should bring ya to google. IUf that doesn't do it returnt he phone and get a new one, it should load those WAP sites.

I have a sanyo 4900 and get tons of insufficient memory errors also. I have never used the wirless web before vision, so I don't know if other services can access the pages I get errors on. Does anyone know if wap.hollywood.com works on other services besides vision? If I can get access to these sites on other cheaper services I will definately drop sprint and go elsewhere.

From my Sanyo 4900 I have been able to access
local movie times from amazon.com. I believe
I was offered 3 of the most current movies
and it told me times for 2 or 3 theaters in my
    area.

It is not all inclusive, but it does cover the
movie theaters I often go to. To hone in on
a different theater, I believe I would have
changed the zip code. But I doubt you could
access every theater in the area; just those
that are subscribing to participate in this
service. And I could not enter the name of
the movie to see. I just had to hope they
were including the movie I wanted to see

I didnt know that I needed to substitute www for wap. Everytime I tried http://www.yahoo.com on my 4900, I got an memory full message. Tonight I did it with http://wap.yahoo.com and it came on my 4900 almost instantly.

Has anyone actually gotten yahoo to work? I can bring up the site but when I choose sign in, I get insufficient memory, restart browser. After doing that I still get the same error. I'm using the Sanyo 4900. Any help would be appreciated.

When you get to yahoo on your 4900 and it gives you the memory error, instead of restarting your browser try refreshing the webpage. That worked for me.

    2 Questions...
Any ideas why I cannot log into Yahoo. I enter my name and password and it just reloads the sign in page.
When I try top load the sign in page for MSN it says that the browser cannot handle it. ???? I am confused.
    thanks

My friend also has a Sanyo 4900 on Sprint PCS vision and cannot get to MSN Hotmail or Yahoo Mail with it. Attemps to go to mobile.msn.com result in the "memory full error" as does almost every other page....

Question: does the Sanyo 4900 support a standard WAP interface and can the phone be "downgraded" to Wireless Web instead of Vision? ....

If not, can either Yahoo or MSN be reached via a phone-friendly interface?! I can get to everything fine with my Verizon and Mobile Web.... MSN, Yahoo, Google, movie listings, etc.

    Thanks,

    Michael

I've spoken to the tech at SprintPCS and I've been informed, that they haven't written the javascripts for many of the popular website. For Example My yahoo.com, AOL, MSN, ESPN and moviefone.com. Basically the PCS Vision wouldn't buy you any vaule unless you like downloading ringers and pictures.

The problem isn't javascripting, most likely the problem is financial arrangements with those particular sites, compensation is paid for the content, if an arrangement is not there, the content will not be.

I've played around with some pure WAP pages (.WML, <card> tags, etc.) and the 4900 did fine with WML. I had a bit of trouble with dynamically generated WML which might have been confusing my web server (in regards to MIME types). I didn't test WMLS (the WAP flavor of JavaScript), but WBMP (Wireless Bitmaps) worked okay.

"In the field" I get mixed results, but most WAP sites do fine. The best results come from HTML sites that are "plain." That is simple text, no elaborate CSS, and only images in PNG and JPG formats (and SMALL). The 4900 can even handle frames, just not gracefully. You can only view one frame at a time, and must pick which one you want to view. It's better than an error message.

I'm trying to build a decent portal of "vision" enabled sites. You might tray a few of those.
