I have never followed or been interested in the cell phone tower pictures. Come to think of it, I can't even remember why it was started in the first place and/or why it continues to be something this community does. Would some please explain the history and attraction to this?
Speaking for myself, I started being interested when JFB offered prizes for the first three to reach 50 and I managed to be the second and do not remember who was the first. I even got my husband to take some pictures on his route to work, I was very surprised when he did get 6 pictures instead of just rolling his eyes. The cell towers overseas in the line of vision of ancient monuments started to intrigue me. My favorite was the Mobinil tower right behind the 6000+ year old Luxor temple in Egypt, while the photographers in the group were complaining about not being able to keep it out. There are many more interesting ones overseas and I probably have most of them in the gallery. Back in the US, it looked like there were very few from WI, so I decided to make my State a priority and had lots of "fun" including an encounter with State Patrol. I am afraid I have not kept up in the recent past but now that you reminded me, I will try to add to the gallery. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
Something I noticed about cell towers in France, all the ones that I have seen are really low compared to what we see in the U.S.. I would guess they have strict regulations on cell towers height.
People had been posting pictures of interesting camouflaged cell sites such as trees, steeples, silos, etc. almost since the beginning of the forums. I added the a gallery section to keep it organized. After that some members enjoyed adding to their collections and identifying what type of service was being providing according to the antennas on the cell site. Every site is unique and many members, including myself, liked seeing how they differed around the country (and world). I guess the novelty has worn off, but we still have quite a collection of pictures. This one sticks in my mind as one of the most unique: Cellular Bison by BillRadio posted Jun 1, 2005 at 5:58 PM
