Yes the USB cable will charge the phone but the phone has to be on, if you got a completely drained battery to the point where the phone is off it will not charge the phone, so if you want to charge your phone this way make sure that you still have about 1 bar on your battery meter and make sure the phone is on.
Hey new to this site, I picked up a RAZR last Thursday. Steep on the price. Nice features include the all metal case and light weight/slim size. I am coming off a V710. I really liked that phone but reception at my house was terrible. Swapped 3 different VZW phones, V710 had strongest reception but still not enough at my house. I will say this, with only a week of ownership, the V710 voice commands blow away the Razr version. Razr is limited to storing voice names within each phone book entry where the V710 "asks you" what you would like to do with various voice commands including digit dial ( I miss this a lot ). The Razr seems to have better battery life though. Still testing, get my data cable and MTK Ver3 tomorrow. I purchased this to back up my phone book as I did not store in on the SIM. The phonebook had limited entry capability if stored on the SIM
I am enjoying the experience so far. I am a primarily voice user, so I have yet to take advantage of the wireless web features of the phone, but so far everything is going well. Great voice clarity and signal strength everywhere I have been in New Orleans so far. The phone / carrier combination is vastly superior to my old T-Mobile / T610 duo. No regrets on the purchase at all. Now I'm just waiting for that $100 mail-in rebate to make me feel even better about it :browani: . Not a bad phone to get for $225, is it? Also, the GUI isn't as bad as people on this site have made it out to be, either. I have been able to modify the default settings on everything to personalize the phone to exactly the way I like it, with the different softkeys and shortcuts. On a side note, does anyone happen to know if Cingular's phones come unlocked, or will I have to call customer service to get that taken care of? I asked a rep at a Cingular store near my house, but they didn't even know what I was talking about. Great training, huh? -theBOAT
Hey Boat glad you're enjoying your Razr like i am.. I have also been able to customized my Razr to the way i like it most including transfering wallpapers and ringtones with phone tools. Alot of the Razrs that were sold after December seem to come locked now, you can check it by inserting a SIM card from another carrier to see if yours is locked, i got my replaced about a month ago (not because of any malfuntions-i dropped my phone and got scratches on it) and it came locked so i got the unlock code and instructions from Cingular to unlock mine.
Cool thanks for the tip. I don't have an international trip coming up soon, so I can wait and play around with it this weekend. -BOAT
Where are you going? I have had pretty good luck using mine internationally with a few exceptions. First, obviously I can't use it in Korea, which appears to be more and more of a problem. On the GSM side, I actually had some trouble this last week. I went on business to Geneva, and took 3 days to ski after a day of meetings. I was able to access Orange CH and Sunrise in Switzerland, but not SwissGSM (which is the vodafone network in switzerland) so interestingly, Cingular seems to avoid the voda network there. When I left Geneva to ski, I had to travel to France (skiing 1-hr from Geneva). When I tried to make a call in France, I was unable to access the network. I tried using SFR and Orange which were all I could reliably get, and really had no luck. I couldn't get ahold of Cingular support because their numbers don't work overseas, so I eventually had to have a secretary at work call and deal with it. Turns out, my account was shut off after being flagged for fraud since it was used in two countries in one day. The fact that Cingular flags fraud this way is absurd and infuriating. I can understand suspicion if the phone was used in the US and then say Thailand 1-hour later, but in Europe, or when traveling and connecting at different airports, is it really unusual for this to happen? I talked to a few other people at work who have had similar problems. This seems dumb and like a stupid way for Cingular to detect fraud, I have to say I was really disappointed. I know this is an issue with Cingular not the RAZR, but just make sure you have Cingular contact numbers when travelling abroad incase an idiotic issue like this comes up. NOTE: These are problems I never have with my Blackberry. In fact, I used my blackberry to get in touch with the office when this phone was out of comission. Seems as if TMO doesn't have this dumb policy in place.
I know that T-Mo doesn't have that kind of policy in place. I had them at the end of last year when I was traveling between the Netherlands and Belgium and back in a 3 day time frame. Used my phone in both countries on the same day twice, and didn't run into a problem. Also used it in France and Germany on the same trip, with no problems there, either (except for the bill when I got home!!). I'm glad I found out about this weird Cingular fraud detection method - I'll be double sure to get my phone unlocked and carry my European SIM chip with me on the next trip across the pond. At least then I can call them in the US to straighten the potential situation out (or not pay over a buck a minute for a call, which is the real reason ). -Boat
You are correct, TMO, which my blackberry is, seems to work just fine. Also, with my Blackberry, it seems much more likely to ring when people try to call me.
