Can magnets damage or in anyway harm a cell phone? I bought a case for my cellphone today, and the closure is with a magnet, instead of the usual velcro. I assume the small magnet in the case should be OK, otherwise they wouldn't be selling this case. But generally speaking, I don't like to keep magnets around my electronic devices, especially things with screens and/or radio. Does anyone have any bad experiences from a magnet being near their cellphone? I've used the case 1 day, and all seems OK, but just wondering...
I have had no problems with the cases I have with magnetic closures. Actually I prefer the magnetic closure as it is easier to operate without looking. -Jay
I had a couple old phones and one day I put a really powerful magnet up to them. They were tunred on and off nothing happened to them. I did this a good ten minutes.
Most of the cases I own for my phones have magnetic closures. I've never experienced any problems with the phones at all because of this. Your case should be fine for your phone.
Thanks for all the feedback. I guess everything now is solid-state electronics and shouldn't be affected by magnets. I just remember messing up the display of a tube TV by holding a magnet to the screen when I was a kid...well, it was my neighbors screen ...anyway, always thought twice about magnets and electronics since then ...I guess the RF shouldn't be affected either...
Wirelessly posted (Walkguru's: Opera/9.50 (J2ME/MIDP; Opera Mini/4.1.11328/528; U; en)) you never know what magnets will do to a cell phones.
The BlackBerry also has a magnet in the phone as well... I learned this the hard way when my bus pass was stripped of its information.... there must be some sort of magnet or sensor in the pouch as well as the phone has the ability to behave different.
Magnets are bad for the Helio Ocean since it uses magnetic switches to tell it if it is in portrait or landscape mode.
