Hi everyone. in about 3 weeks, a friend of mine is planning on selling his mpx220. he got the phone for free about 10 months ago. he wants to get most of his money back for the accessories (home chargers, car charger, extra battery, etc....). I probably can get the phone from him for somewhere b/w $120 and $200. I've read some great reviews about the mpx220; i've also read some not-so-great reviews. That's one option.

the other choice is getting the Razr v3 for free from various online places. the only way to get the phone for free is to cancel my cingular service (contract already expired) and re-sign, basically getting a new number, new plan, etc....

SO to sum it up, either continue with a used phone w/o a contract, same number, same plan, OR be under contract for 2 years, new phone, new plan (which would cost more/month).

i would prefer not to change my number/plan but if the razr v3 is a better choice, i'll consider doing it. Also, if there is another phone that i should be considering, please let me know. Any input will be appreciated. Thank you.

If you don't mind the hard-to-hear weak earpiece volume on the Mpx220, the poor battery life and the slow menus, then you can get it. Otherwise, get the V3, it has better battery life (while not amazing), has normal earpiece volume and menus don't lag as much. The only thing is that the V3 doesn't run Windows, but the screen is much bigger and signal reception is better.

Thanks, bobolito. I'm going to ask my friend to see if it's possible to borrow his phone for a few days and see how it feels. He says he hasn't had any problems with the phone and he's very critical of his phone choices. Any other opinions?

The mpx220 has many issues, all of which have been listed. Paying that kind of money for the 220 sounds like a bad deal.

Personally I would get a V3 if I had the choice between the two, but I have issues with Windows Mobile. I will say that the V3 is a nice phone, the reception is great and it's thin and light.
