Does anyone have Verizon and live in PA? How is the coverage? I'm looking to switch providers and I really like the LG ENV and want Verizon because of this. I also checked into Cingular but their phones didn't appeal to me. Thanks to anyone who can help...
I live in pittsburgh, and formerly in the Erie area, I have great coverage, allowing for mountain/valley variances of course. if you look here, it will show you the coverage in your area. http://www.verizonwireless.com/b2c/CoverageLocatorController?requesttype=NEWREQUEST
i live in the Southeast area or PA and none of my friends ever complain with Verizon...........they love it.
Thanks for the responses. I found that in my area, people with Verizon have a lot of dropped calls. I've also spoken with people/friends who have Cingular and they have no problem in my area. On Saturday I went ahead and purchased a plan with Cingular. The reception in my house is great. Even a dead spot by my computer that I had with Nextel, I now have reception with Cingular.
yeah..........i dont like Cingular much.......their texting and data plans suck and they are pretty secretive and shady when it comes to their coverage........but there is no doubt.........they do have a very good network....
To be honest, I think a lot of companies are shading when it comes to coverage area. They'll tell you what you want to hear to sign up. Ever since Nextel merged with Sprint it was horrible. Horrible is not even the word. I had many dropped calls, more dead spots, etc. I talked to over 15 friends/family/coworkers who have Cingular and 4 with Verizon. None of the Cingular customers had any complaints. They loved the service, coverage, etc. and highly recommended it. When I talked to 2 out of the 4, they mentioned bad coverage and once their contracts end, are switching to Cingular as well. Made my decision a lot easier...I'm glad I spoke to all these people before making my decision.
see in my area Cingular gets dropped calls more than it should........Sprint and VZW are really strong around her.............so is Nextel and Boost.........cuz Boost's gangsta' image is really popular downtown.......in the ghetto :browani:
I live in PA also and after having Verizon for years switched to Cingular due to coverage issues in my house with Verizon. But now I'm looking into coming back again now that Verizon added a new cell site in my area. I want to see if I can get reception here now. Most of my family and friends have Verizon so M2M would be great to have, but I also like Cingular's network. Why is it so hard to pick a carrier and just stick with them.
In my are Sprint/Nextel has too many DEAD ZONES and Sux Big Time. What's worse is Sprint has NO Plans of Fixing them, T-Mobile is Better than Sprint.
Right, jones, Sprint is just adding panels to NEXTEL sites across the country...that's their plan of fixing coverage, better plan than any other wireless carrier!
So that would mean there is no Verizon service as well? Since Sprint will roam on Verizon in NJ. And as Larry said, they are making co-located sites with the Nextel towers to help with dead zones. I do think though, with all the NIMBY'ers here in NJ, it does hinder Sprint from putting up more towers to cover these areas. I guess that's our curse for having the most populated state in the country.
for once i agree with you.........i love T-Mobile........but Sprint is doing some serious upgrades to coverage nowadays.....and they are planning on removing Nextel sometime in the future and upgrade the whole network to EV-DO Rev A...............ohh they have plans..........T-Mobile is great but im beginning to really like Sprint
Everything is still great. I checked other spots that I traveled to. With Nextel some were dead spots and with Cingular, I have coverage. Totally happy with my decision. I love being able to call all my other Cingular friends/family for free.
Nice to hear that Cingular is working out for you here in PA. I still haven't been able to settle upon a carrier to stick with yet myself but I am leaning more toward Cingular due to their great coverage in NE Philly area.
It was also comforting to know that you had 30 days to cancel if you didn't like it. Verizon only had 14 and that wasn't enough time. Heck, I was almost snowed in for a whole week and it wouldn't have given me enough time to check some of the areas I travel to. Besides, I only knew 4 people who had Verizon and 2 of them hated it. Again, that's in my area so others may be different. It was really a no brainer for me on which way to go, but again, the 30 days is a good time frame. I'm only on the 2nd week and have no complaints, only praise. I really love the fact that I can keep my minutes that I didn't use (thus the rollover). Great selling point.
What fine print? I know that after 12 months the very first month of roll-over would fall off and continue like that. Still, I'd have enough built up so that wouldn't matter. Is this what your referring to? That's better than paying for 900 and not using them all and next month starting with only 900 again. There are some months that I use a little more and some that I use a lot less. From the Cingular website: Unused Rollover Minutes expire after the 12th billing period of the month accumulated in. Night and Weekend and Mobile to Mobile Minutes do not roll over.
A person can't always tell what their coverage is going to be like just by looking at those maps. I know when I had Verizon a few months ago I couldn't even use my phone in the house, where as with Cingular I have full bars here and clear calls. I'm on the fence about weather or not to give Verizon one more try or just stick with Cingular since I already know what the coverage is going to be like for me in my area.
You are right about the maps. And if you get good coverage where you want it then you have found your answer. Some of my friends use Cingular and have no coverage in their area, like Malvern Pa. VZW has no coverage in Chesterbrook Pa. One thing you can do is post the general area the hundred block of the street or interections and for sure it will get reported to Verizon. By the way did you try another VZW phone there.
This is the list of Verizon phones that I have tried in the order of best reception to the worst: Motorola E815, V325, Nokia 3589i, LG: 9900, 8300, 8100, 4500, 5300, 5200, 4400, (and more that I can't recall). The only phone that worked consistently in my house was the 3589i.
Cingular is almost perfect in Philly from the looks of the coverage maps (and yes it looks like Cingular might be improving accuracy) and they have UMTS available there
If I do go with Cingular on a plan I'm thinking of going with the MOTORAZR V3xx due to HSDPA 3.6 technology with 10 class EDGE. If I get Verizon I'll get the LG EnV 9900 again untill some of the newer Motorola's come out.
Jerro, could you tell me what fine print you were referring to? I'm just curious. I know about the rollover minutes dropping off after 12 months but didn't know if that's what you were referring to.
yeah........there was someone else on this forum who was doing a review of the V3xx on the Cingular forum.........apparently its really good..........and my friend has the EnV and he really likes it a lot
