If I go to mini.opera.com from a phone that has a previous version installed, will the new version (java) just overwrite and upgrade the old, or do both versions remain on the phone?
On my Nokia 6131, I just go to the Opera Mini appl on the phone, go to options, and select 'update version', it then automatically updates the phone version to 3.0, replacing the older one. That is the 'options' menu in the phone, not Opera Mini. That is the fastest way to do this. It also auto configures itself.
Wirelessly posted (Q's Mobile Device: Opera/8.01 (J2ME/MIDP; Opera Mini/3.0.6306/1528; en; U; ssr)) Thanks for the heads up. Even my 6010 has an update option for apps. I was able to use this option. I wasn't able to connect to the net at first but i think that this was fixed after adjusting some settings on the phone. I now have higher character limits... 900 on the 3.0 vs 450 on the 2.0
I have my apps on the MicroSD card so when I downloaded from the website it downloaded it to its default location in the phones memory.....so I had both 2.0 and 3.0 because they were on different locations. I then remembered about the "update version" menu and redownloaded and that way it upgraded the one in the MicroSD card to 3.0, therefore, it kept all my bookmarks intact. I then deleted the other 3.0 that was in the internal memory.
I still occasionally get the "out of Memory" message on my 6010. I wondering is it TMobile prepaid clamping down on data or is it my phone (I realize that the 6010 isn't meant to be a only device )?
Sounds like your Java Platform in your phone is having issues managing memory. So far the new Opera Mini works great in my 6131. The only thing Opera Mini needs is an overhaul of their ancient and cumbersome bookmark management system. It is just so hard to organize bookmarks the way you want them. Plus, there is no way to backup/restore your bookmarks. If you get a new phone, you have to enter all your bookmarks manually all over again. The RSS reader is an welcome feature but it needs a better way to manage/edit RSS feeds. You can't change the order in which they display and the only way to subscribe/unsubcribe is by opening the feed. It needs some way to edit the URL for the feed in case the publisher changes it. Opera Mini also lacks page auto-refresh.
Oh ok... I'll live with the faulty memory management since the WAP is free for now I also noticed that all the bookmarks can be deleted:biggrin: Before, certain bookmarks were permanent .So far, Opera is a step up from the plain browser and it'll suffice until I can get a better and affordable data option
I wasn't able to get Opera Mini working fully on my Noloa 6101. Although the application downloaded and successfully launched, I was not able to web browse with it, it said it couldn't find an Internet connection.
Wirelessly posted (Q's Mobile Device: Opera/8.01 (J2ME/MIDP; Opera Mini/3.0.6306/1528; en; U; ssr)) Initially, that happened to me also. I just decided to run the program in spite of the error and it worked. It eventually got a connection after several tests.
