I don't really see the confusion, 0001 through 0559 would be considered night time and therefore included in your night and weekend minutes.
Just to reiterate.... To whomever mentioned that VZW's main goal was to compete in the business field....bingo! I've stated this before in another forum...but VZW only has 15% saturation in the business field...and of course, Nextel sits #1 right now...not sure on the percentage (it escapes my fragile little mind!). I do agree with everyone....the $59.99 starting off rate is hard....but take one thing into consideration...Nextel has the highest ARPU among consumers....sitting around I believe last I heard was $54? Word out on the street is so many Nextel subscribers are sick and tired about "billing errors, and terrible service"...that is for the majority of people I've talked to. Some absolutely love their Nextel service. With Nextel having such a high ARPU among consumers....it isn't a "bad" (explain the quotes later) idea to have a high rate plan to start off...you're getting service that you can use, plus a walkie talkie feature, compared to the $50 some odd dollars you were paying before hand. I'd think most people would be satsified....at least, the Nextel population and the business aspect. Now my quotations...it hurts the average consumers like you and I. We want that $39.99 PTT America's Choice Plan....but stop to think....Verizon has Nationwide PTT....Nextel will charge $10 a month to add that on. Also has a N/W package, also has 1,000 M2M, Free CID, VM, and the ability to use your cellular phone outside of the 1X network..which has allready eclipsed Nextel's iDEN within a little over a year (Jun 02 was when the 1XRTT was rolled out)...I have no doubts that Verizon will indeed release a consumer friendly plan...probably around Mid October or so....along with a family share plan. The PTT feature was released on Aug 18th....it's hardly more then 2 weeks old...Rome wasn't built in a day. I agree that perhaps from the consumer viewpoint, we're not happy...but all things taken into consideration...Verizon is #1 for a reason. And they will adapt.
I'm not really sure any VZN official is going to see any of this rhetoric here. The PTT is new, the arguments made here are fairly obvious, but they will do as they always do, and milk every last cent from something before lowering the price to be more attractive. Oh, and if you want to e-mail directly, write to: Ivan.Seidenberg@Verizon.com This is where all the money goes anyway.
Yeah...I may have jumped the gun on this thread. I was misinformed on Nextels rate plans. I looked at their flyer and their share plan isn't much better than ours. They have Night and Weekends with barely any DC, We have unlimited PTT and the N+W is an add-on. So it's pretty even. and based on the people coming in, the deciding factor is the coverage. Hmmmmmm.......
The majority of phones are produced in either the United States or China. Hardly third world countries. Do you honestly believe a color LCD screen, flash memory, processor, speaker, and radio chips cost just a few dollars in raw materials? The cost of the phone isn't $350, but it isn't $60 either. Ask any Motorola stock holder, they will tell you Motorola's margins are razor thin compared to Nokia and Samsung. The fat just isn't there. Further proof is the cost Motorola sells their phones to their employees, which are for cost... the price is not as cheap as you would think.
OK, I promised I wouldn't argue... but I must say a few things. China IS a third world country (at least according to the CIA) and yes I do think the materials AND LABOR are dirt cheap for Motorola... Materials cost quite a bit more than what they would cost you at Radio Shack At cost isn't QUITE the meaning of what it costs Motorola to produce the phone so that isn't really a good measure. Margins are also not a good indicator of product cost. Sorry if I hit a nerve if you work for Motorola, I don't think you are "the fat." I will now shut up because my girlfriend tells me I shouldn't argue so much Love, The King of Crap
Folks, I don't mean this message to be inflammatory, just informational. I'm retired from the pharmaceutical industry, and we too, have been skewered about how much a pill costs. What we tend to lose sight of is what it costs for scientists and engineers to figure out how all those parts go together and work reliably, the cost for testing, the costs for companies to tool up to run the different parts, shipping, training to sell the new stuff, customer support, etc. Any time a new product comes out customer support activity skyrockets for a period of time, especially if the product has some bugs. Many times I've read on these forums about how unhappy people were when it was taking so long for Verizon to come out with their PTT. That could have been (and still might be) a terrible fiasco by rushing it out before properly tested. If companies aren't able to recoup their expenses they'll soon be out of business. I read somewhere that GM makes a profit of $17,000 on every $35,000 Silverado. On the surface that seems obscene. But believe it or not they're working 10-15 years into the future. Lynn
Well nobody here is about to reveal the actual cost to produce the v60p. The cost is not trivial and significantly more than what I assume you think it is.
