Hi, I'm interested to launching an online wireless service similar to letstalk-com and wirefly-com... I would appreciate any info on how to establish relation with carries and phone suppliers to resale wireless products and services. Would also appreciate any comments/suggestions regarding this kind of venture. Thanks - Joe
Wirelessly posted (Opera Mini on Alltel HTC 6800: Opera/9.60 (J2ME/MIDP; Opera Mini/4.2.13337/488; U; en) Presto/2.2.0) You are going to need a really strong business plan and tons of capital up front to get the carriers attention, the carriers own websites are pretty profitable, so their is going to have to be something special you can offer that they can't. You can try tracking down indirect channel contacts for each carrier to start... you may also want to visit a ctia trade show to get some vendor ideas.
WirelessBeachBum, thanks for your reply and comment. It's interesting the carries require lots of money for people to resell for them. In my case, I'm just initially looking to resell for a reasonable commission. A few more question: - Are there distributors out there that provides a turn-key solution that provides a private-label solution where I can resell there products/services? Can I start out that way? - What are the typical commission on sales for phones and calling plans? I'm not looking to outlay any cash to get started. Except for the expense to build the site and generate traffic to it. Actually, I already have the site and a community of users that use the site. Based on the audience I want to set up a section of the site to offer wireless services. Joe
Joe, have you done your homework in regards to WireFly and LetsTalk? I think if you took a closer look, you would find that this business model is not as lucrative as you may think. Beach Bum is correct in saying that you need a need a great business plan and lots of capital! The fraud that happens with an online activation is huge! Hard for you to verify the information when you are not face to face with your customer. Most of the Master agencies will not even entertain the thought of nationwide, online activations. Where are you located? If you are on the West Coast I can PM you a couple of phone numbers
Fonboy, thanks for the reply and your comments - Just what I'm looking for. I'm at the very early stages regarding doing this. That's why I'm on this forum to get inputs like your (thanks!)... I have been doing some more research and also entertaining just being a "sales agent" for a distributor. One option I'm looking into is to be a partner of a national wireless distributor. I see some sites that set up "Private Label" sites BUT the Master Distributors does all the processing and shipping. For now, I can just start out as a "sales agent" for commission. BTW, I'm based in Houston, TX... Feel free to PM me with contact info - would like to chat with you if I can.
