I currently have 3 lines with VZW. My first line is my grandfathered unlimited data plan that I've bought full retail phones for over the past several years, and currently have a Note 3. The second line is my wife's 6gb/mo $30 plan. We share Unlimited Text/MMS and a 700 min per month voice package. Recently, I added a third line for my daughter, bought her an S5, and she was supposed to also share the 700 min and my wife's 6gb a month. I got an alert that my daughter was at 75% of her usage after only a week, so I went online to find out a few things:
They didn't share the data but gave her a separate 2gg/mo plan for $30
They told me they can't share data between certain lines, and data can only be shared if all lines on the account are sharing
My bill is now $270 per month
I am seriously considering ditching Verizon since $270 is absurdly high. What would you all suggest? I figured that everyone here is probably similarly familiar with what I'm going through and might be able to offer some kind of advice or recommendations.
    Thanks in advance,
    Jesse

Hi Jesse. I'm now in my 60s, retired, and my girls are married off. It is just my wife and I. We both have smartphones and share a 10g/month plan, free unlimited talk and text. We are on ATT. I live in Northern CA where ATT is excellent. I don't know if that would be an option for you. Just last month, they were offering everyone with a 15g/month plan or greater a free upgrade to double their data. I don't think that offer is available anymore, but still, 10g verses your current 6g is even an upgrade for you. As far as shared plans: Yes, you could have all 3 phones on the same shared plan. Now for downside. Verizon and ATT use two different technologies for wireless so you would have to get all new phones. Verizon phones don't work on ATT and visa verse. The only other carrier I know that you may be able to transport those phones to is Sprint. There may be other resellers of Verizon services in your area. Also, do not forget the early termination fees you will have to pay on each account.

    Jesse,

How much data do you use per month on your line? If you are a lighter user or seem to use more data on Wi-Fi, I would suggest looking at the More Everything plans. This all depends on if you don't mind giving up your unlimited data. The way it sounds like is your wife upgraded her phone and they put her on the $30 6GB plan for grandfathered customers. There is essentially no way you can all share data any more unless you switch to the More Everything plans. Each of you will be on separate data plans, which gets expensive from what you have seen.

We too were on the old grandfathered unlimited data plans, but paying full retail got expensive every time one of us wanted or needed a new phone. I am not sure on your budget or what you would like to spend each month, but we like the More Everything plans. They give you unlimited talk, unlimited messaging, and data that each line shares from. Verizon is currently running a limited time promo for 10 GB of data on the More Everything share plans for the same price as the old 6GB tier was. The next tier of 10GB is now 15GB for the same price. We switched to the 10GB tier and continue to pay the same price each month and now have an additional 4 more gigabytes of data each month. Again it depends on how much data each of you use per month. You can look this up under your plan on Verizon's My Account site. It is located under the my account and view usage section. You can then run an account analysis and it should show your data over the past 6 months. This may be slightly different since you are each on a separate data plan.

The More Everything plans are $40 per month for a smartphone plus the shareable data. So since you have 3 smartphones, it would be $120 per month, plus the data tier you select and tax. This might be something to consider. Let us know if you have any more questions.

If you would consider something outside the box, you might look at StraightTalk Wireless. You can bring you own CDMA (Verizon) or GSM phones.
