Hi, hoping that someone can give me some advice. I have Verizon and currently have a Samsung A530 phone. I'm interested in a new phone and I like the new Samsung A670 that just came out. My A530 is trimode and I get great coverage. The Verizon rep pointed out that the A670 is all digital so it can't go analog at all. That stopped me cold cos he could not tell me for sure if that would work for me. I work in Olympia, WA and commute almost daily between Olympia & Seattle. OK, now for my questions: 1. Will Verizon all digital work out OK along that route? 2. Am I correct in assuming that sooner or later all phones will be all digital? 3. If I go the all digital route, I'm really tempted to hold off and get the Motorola 710 when it comes out--hopefully soon! Any thoughts on that? Thanks, Amy
Hello Amy, The only advice that I can offer is for you to go ahead and get the A670 and try it out HARD (I mean use it a lot on ALL of your normal routes - call everybody that you know) for the 14-day trial period. Actually, I think that they give you longer to try out a phone and the 14 days is to cancel your plan entirely. As for your assumption that "sooner or later" all phones will be digital, I'd say much later, probably in the neighbourhood of 3-5 years, and that's probably optimistic. Good luck and welcome to WirelessAdvisor!
You may not have seen this but I found a very large forum page for the Samsung A670 at Phone Scoop. http://www.phonescoop.com/phones/p_forum.php?p=360 While I hate to redirect you to another forum site perhaps this will be of some use.
Hey Amy, your a530 is already all digital. It's not tri-mode. If you get great digital signal where you live, I think you'll be okay with the newer all digital samsung models. That new sammy looks nice. Welcome to the forums. Nice to meet you.
I'm pretty embarrassed that the rep. you spoke to didn't tell you that you were already using an all digital handset. Then again, I'm not surprised. I used to work with a few of them. I'd give him the benefit of the doubt and assume he was new. Then again we all know what happens when we assume. LOL T-prophet seems to know a lot about Washington area coverage so hopefully he could tell you if you'd be okay with your travels.
I was just going to point that out. I agree...sometimes reps can be stupid...no offense to anyone here on WA, though...you are all smart IMHO
there is nothing wrong with going all digital. the only places that have analog service are far away remote places, and certain rural areas that have a population density of 0.001 people per square mile (meaning of course places where the population is very spread out) every major city has digital coverage, and to my knowledge there is no major city with analog service. unless you are up in the boonies, you dont need analog
Everyone, thank you for the feedback. I called Verizon back and the rep I spoke to this time confirmed what several of you have said--I'm already on an all digital phone! So thanks to R32VW's link, I tracked down some info that the Motorola 710 will be out by 6 July. I'm going to hold off until then so I can see the 710. My computer, laptop and PDA all have Bluetooth, plus I like the speakerphone capability. And the phone itself looks pretty darn nice. But the A670 also looks nice! Anyway, I'll try to hold my horses until the 710 comes out. Thanks everyone for taking the time and patience to help me out, Amy
That's a shame as I have always found his advice, expertise & knowledge to be very helpful, not to mention friendly. Any particular reason for his leaving, or is that private (which I absolutely respect)?
Amy, if you do get the Moto V710 and you are one of the first 710 people to register it you get your choice of either a Bluetooth headset or speakerphone. Check out this link.
Thanks--I'll check it out. I'll go ahead and hold onto my Samsung A530 after I get a new phone in any event for my hubby. He has used up his 2 phones in a year insurance. The first phone got dropped; the second one met an untimely demise. Let's just say it got waterlogged ! I figure it's just a matter of time before phone #3 is trashed... TTFN, Amy
Except my area which is in Tucson. For whatever reason, Verizon does not have usable digtal coverage up here. It however is enough that it will cause a vx4400 to go from the sprint tower 20 feet above my head to verizon digital with no bars, then to analog and back and forth. Just be able to use your phone in areas where you need it i.e. your home and work and the routes you take on a regular basis, and you should be happy (most of the time)
