After my dirt bike "accident" in the middle of nowhere Arizona, and unable to place a call for help because my entire family has Nextel phone's, I've decided to get a Verizon phone...I just got my new Verizon-Kyocrea 2235...it arrived Fed Ex about an hour ago....can't wait to try her out...!!!! [IMG]

At least Verizon's Night & weekends start at 8pm in Arizona market, I just talked to Nextel and it's true...they are forcing everyone to start their Night & Weekends at 9pm instead of 8pm and they are not going to let anyone out of their contracts..becuse of this..!! [IMG] This really pisses me off...!!!

Rich, sorry to hear about your accident. My wife and I had two accidents--our children. (Just kidding, we love them.) Oh ya, and congrats on being "assimilated." The Borg collective loves you. Just remember, "we" are Verizon.

Wayne: They call marriage an "institution." That's also what they call insane asylums. (But I must also add that I am happily insane (ahh, "married") --as of this November for 30 years.)

    Hey Rich,

I thought you already had a Verizon phone along with your Nextel. Weren't you talking about using Verizon and roaming on Sprint on your trip to the Grand Canyon? Sorry to hear about your accident. Hope you're recovering well.

Oh no, Larry I'm sorry...I should have told you, it was my cousins phone. They were here visiting for Easter holiday, so I took his phone from him and did alittle research with it (he he)[IMG]. Its a great phone....even know it doesn't work at my house. I'm keeping my Nextel, that works at my house....so when I'm out and about I'll just forward all my calls to my Verizon phone and when I'm home I'll forward all my calls to my Nextel phone.[IMG] Hey do you know if there's a charge for that...?????

Hey Wayne, well sorry to here that.......if your ever out my way I'll teach you a few things...lol..like how to crash and completely break every bone in your shoulder...[IMG] No, I'm a pretty decent rider..it was just bad luck, I've raced the Baha in California a few times..man that's tough…!!

Hey Kevin, just call me Locutus of "Verizon" ooops...I mean Borg....... Hey, I could use one of those borg arms...lol

Rich- I use call forwarding all the time with Verizon. I have never been charged for forwarding calls to landline (but when checking your minutes, the system includes these "forwarded" calls). Verizon swears that if you forward calls to a cell phone, then you will be charged. I am not sure if they mean they(Verizon) will charge me or that the minutes used on the "forwarded to" cell phone will charge minutes as normal.

That is one thing about older Verizon plans. There is no way to check in the automated system how many mobile-mobile minutes, forwarded call minutes vs anytime minutes used. They are all combined. I did have a rep tell me that he could separate mobile to mobile vs anytime, but he did not/could not remove call forwarding minutes from the count.

they are all being seduced by the dark side of rural analog service! lol j/k

even a hardcore sprint guy like me will admit for those in rural areas verizon is most probably the way to go; and desert landscape in arizona counts as rural.

only thing i have a gripe about is that verizon users roam for free on sprint digital while sprint users roam on verizon analog for anywheres from 30-69 cents a minute (69 cent out here in nj) i personally have never had to roam but this agreement seems just a little skewed.

Thanks Jackstar, I'm very happy With Verizon......and I've only had them for one day now…!! Well, I have to say they have the BEST customer service, I wanted to reach though the phone and give this girl a BIG hug....that how nice she was, or maybe it was the pain medication talking...lol[IMG] [IMG]

Believe it or not I really wanted to go with Sprint PCS...but, after what happened two me I don't want to be suck without coverage again. Maybe after my contract runs out with Nextel I'll switch to Sprint…!!

    Rich,

With Sprint you will never be without coverage since they have analog roaming agreements covering 100% of the existing cellular coverage. So basically if your Verizon phone works then your Sprint phone will work also just with a .39 to .69 cent/min charge. But at least you won't be without coverage like Nextel who's phones cannot roam. With the way Sprint is expanding in Arizona, you might not need to roam very often anymore.

Hey Larry, Well....I'm definitely going to switch from my Nextel to Sprint, by any chance you wouldn't happen to know when Sprint will be carrying the Sanyo Scp-6200…? According to Sanyos web site Sprint already carries it, or maybe you know of some other cooler[IMG] phones coming out for sprint.

    Rich,
Just last year, Verizon tried the same thing along the east coast. They changed everyone's Night period from 8pm to 9pm, regardless of plan details. Bad idea. There was a huge uproar, but complaints to the Attorneys General of New York and Connecticut did the most good. But to catch THEIR attention, irate customers went to the newpapers, and TV & Radio consumer advocates.

Verizon got a lot of bad press and a scolding from the Attorneys General, and had to recind their change to 9pm on existing accounts. This all happened with the aid of Usenet. Do a search from last year and you will follow it. In the meantime, Verizon has learned to switch people to 9pm by offering new plans, like America's Choice.

Unfortunately, I don't see such a hue & cry arising from Nextel's customers, most of whom don't use much off-peak time. But the precedent has been set. Each state in the east has said, "you can't do that," and were willing to support customers in court.

Nextel has had such a good reputation. This crap puts them into the gutter with other greedy corporate slime. How terribly short-sighted.

    Rich,

Very good choice on the Sanyo 6200! This phone is going to be awesome and adds dual band capabilties over the 6000. It's not out yet but should be by June. In fact Sprint should have a number of new phones out by June or July that will blow away some of thier current models. You could also wait & check out the Kyocera 5135 tri-mode, Samsung A460 or the new Hitachi phones. But I personally would recommend Kyocera if you think you'll need good analog reception. The one problem with Sanyo is that their current phones are lacking in analog performance. I'm not sure if this will be fixed with the 6200.

Bill, I don't think you could have said it any better…!!

I'm thinking about contacting one of our major TV stations in Phoenix, I know they have a consumer reports division see it on TV all the time. I've had enough of this Bull Sh*#t, why should I have to change my lifestyle....I'm the one paying them $70 bucks a month, that's not including our construction company in New Jersey with about 25 phones witch varies from $1,500.00 to 2,000.00 a month.

Rich, I was shocked when I found out Nextel was changing their nights to 9[IMG]m . I just signed up with them three weeks ago. I called them and asked them why they were doing this? their answer was everyone else has switched except att. So I asked them if I was grandfathered in at 8[IMG]m and they said no , I told them at least Verizon and sprint will as long as you stay on the same plan. Sorry we don;t do that; and I said fine cancel my contract its less than 30 days old ! The rep then said how about if we could give you 300 extra bonus anytime minutes per month? It gives me 600 anytime minutes now . Works for me. Tompug.

So Verizon nights and weekends start at 9? !@#$, someone told me they were 8, and I just cancelled my 8:00 sprint service. I guess I would make the switch anyway, but that kinda sucks.

N&W can start at different times depending on where you are, and if you have an older plan...

I have AC in Chicago and my NW starts at 9pm.

Wayne, I'm definitely with Verizon, I'm just looking for a good deal with Sprint so I can tell Nextel..to F*@# off, excuse my language. I need one phone for personal and one for business, most likely Verizon for business and Sprint for personal use. There's not much to choose from around here, At&t sucks in my area, Voicestreams...a joke..lol, and Alltel is mostly analog in Arizona. So as you can see my choices a limited, besides Sprint is expanding out here so its un believable.

Wayne, when I'm at my house I only get 1 bar of Verizon's digital service...but, when I put my hand over the anntena..while placing a call, it will search for service and switch to Sprint PCS witch has full service at my house. Sprint & Nextel have a tower disguised as a pine tree on top of this hill behind my house, Soooo,.... I guess if I roam off it enough Verizon might put a tower up there....I hope..!!!

Oh yeah, no more dirt bikes for me (yea right) or a least untill I heal, three or four month from now...!!

I'm sure Sprint will see a nice bump in roaming revenue this quarter due to Verizon users. They need every $ to maintain their aggressive spending.

Sorry, Larry didn't see that post in there until after I had already posted this. Yes, it looks cool but I don't know its a little to thin and awkard shaped for me I don't think I would buy one if I used Sprint PCS.
