Alright I thought this had been done before but I guess not. Lets post up the tower or set of panels that cover our homes nothing else. If you dont know what one it is then get out there and do some searching. I will start off. Also just post what carrier you use dont need to put everyone but if you want go ahead I want to see everyone participate and get more pics up. I have two towers that mainly cover my home here they are.
this is easy for me. but its sorta funny. bc of the terrain here, the tower that covers me is not the closest one to me ill post it soon, from the view of where i see it as i leave my street and a closer view. GREAT IDEA!!
These 3 towers are 3 miles from my house, at I-85 exit 87, between Gaffney & Cowpens, SC. I wonder why they couldn't just put them all on one tower, three seprate towers wastes alot of metal. In this pic, SunCom is on the left, Alltel is in the middle, and Verizon is on the right. The Alltel tower covers my house at -80 Rx signal (almost full).
Well...back home my Sprint phone will lock on to one of 2 towers, depending on its mood. Here is one, but I can never seem to find the picture of the other one int he gallery!
Wirelessly posted (Walkguru's: Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows 98; PalmSource/Palm-D062; Blazer/4.5) 16;320x320) I will post as soon as I can get out and take a few.
This tower is the one I use most frequently. However, it is a Thumb Cellular tower and I have Verizon, but since I live in the thumb of Michigan, that is why I use this tower the most. If I was at my friend's house, whose dad signed the contract, I would be using the next tower. http://gallery.wirelessadvisor.com/...bee_near_colwood_and_m_81__thumb_cellular.jpg http://gallery.wirelessadvisor.com/files/7/7/3/0/6/tower_in_merrill__verizon,_at_t,_alltel.jpg
Here is the Alltel tower that covers my house 1 of 3 towers located near I-85 near exit 87. I spend an average of 3000-4000 minutes per month on this tower alone (click image for more info):
Here is one of the four towers that covers my neighborhood that is located approximately 0.25 miles SSE of my house (picture was taken standing at the end of my driveway and only AT&T and Alltel are on this tower): Here is tower number two (it covers most of my neighborhood) that is approximately 1.1 to 1.2 miles ENE of my house (this is strictly a Sprint and Nextel tower): Here are towers number three and four that also cover my neighborhood that are located approximately 2.25 miles south of my house in the industrial section of the north part of my city (AT&T, Sprint and Nextel, T-Mobile, Verizon, and Alltel are on these towers) :
the tope sector is verizon wireless, i know this is where i am getting my verizon reception, its about 1 1/2 miles from my house. i get 3 1x bars and 2-3 EVDO bars.
Sorry For Me asking this dumb question, as i am new at this, but how can you tell which tower your phone is using??
If you have field test mode activated on your phone you can find out which channel your phone is on while at home, then scout out tower locations in your area (with field test activated) until you find that tower. (At the base of the tower with a really strong signal as measured in field test mode.) Field Test is not available on all phones, and some of them have to be hacked, or you have to know a secret code to enter into the handset to activate it. I don't know if the VZW Treos have field test or not. -Jay
this one is at the top of the hill by my house in a NNE direction: http://www.colowars.com/perm/Photograph_4_145.jpg this one is down the street 2 blocks from my house in the N Direction (i think my clearwire internet comes from this location): http://www.colowars.com/perm/Photograph_4_154.jpg And this one is 6 blocks from my house in a SSW http://www.colowars.com/perm/Photograph_4_44.jpg
I live in an area called "Highpoint" so you can see I'm almost at the base of this beast. I always have full bars ...
Has Verizon, Nextel, and Southern Linc on this tower. VZW being the highest. It's the closest tower to me, 15 miles away. I get 2-3 bars of signal on Verizon and 4 on Nextel
Great thread idea: This tower is about 1/3 of mile West from me. Sprint & T-Mobile are on it. Verizon has a similar brick facade across the street. This tower also provides service to my place. Its located about 1/4 mile East from my place.
Yes, it can. From the main menu, press ##PROGRAM9100 then press SEND. Then type in the SEC Code it is 000000. then go to Field tests. finally go to screen.
I have Rogers Wireless and there are two spots that are somewhat close to me where I can get my signal. There are Rogers Wireless panels on top of a building about 5 minutes West of me. .....and this Rogers Wireless flagpole is to the East of me about 10 minutes away. However, the tower that I am closest to is a Bell Mobility monopole, seen below.
Hey guys I'm fairly new to this forum but have been reading up on it. I'm very interested in cell towers. If I get time today I will take a picture of the cell towers covering my neighborhood. I use Verizon wireless and the closest tower to me is about 8 to 10 miles away. I had to install a cell phone repeater in my house to get coverage. Also another picture I would like to take that I think you guys would like is what I think is a old AT&T Long Line Microwave Tower its about 15 to 20 miles from my house.
Well, someone has been lurking. First post, and you joined in March 2008? Solid first post, too! You are able to get any signal from a tower 10 miles away? If you have high speed internet at home, you should look into getting Verizons Network Extended, it should give you a much more reliable signal. Back on topic, please, feel free to post a tower pic, we love that around here!
Here is a picture of the cell tower that is in my neighborhood. I think this tower has AT&T and T-Mobile on it, correct me if I'm wrong on that. I think if I remember correctly T-Mobile had to come back out and add more transceiver to get there signal down the main street in town. Where before T-Mobile had zero bars on main street but, great signal in the rest of town.
Hey guys I had some time this morning and edited my neighborhood cell tower picture so now its a close up of the transceivers. Hopefully this will be easier for you guys to see who the provider is.
You can't tell by looking at the panels without being familiar with what panels the carriers use in your area. It would be easier for you to go to the base of the tower and look at the signs and phone numbers.
Yeah, the panels of a certain carrier in one state or province (most of the time) are going to look different then panels of that same carrier in another state or province. They don't all look the same. Myself, I can only tell what most of the carriers panels look like here in Ontario and Michigan so far.
I know for a fact that T-Mobile and AT&T is on the tower. I have been talking to Yankees368 and his guess is that the third provider could be Sprint. Which makes sense because those three providers get the best coverage in town. I'm personally with Verizon and the tower I use is about 10 miles away and since the town I live in is in a river valley, a lot of the Verizon signal shoots right over the town. Also looking at my picture it seems if I remember reading somewhere on the forum that AT&T uses small boxes near there transceivers. Which the middle provider seems to have. Thanks for the help everyone.
10 Miles eh?? That must be one tall tower too. Well you'll get the hang of it for sure. Just pay attention to signs and stuff when tower hunting. Also look at some of the other tower pics in your state's category on here and see of anyone has labeled them. Sometimes you can compare the panels in someone else's picture with the panels in yours.
