You guys are probably going kindle? But but but that's old technology and there a gazillion other devices that you can read on.

So here is my 2 cents :D
I am a avid reader and read between 1-2.5 just about every night regularly. I have been using electronic devices to read (together with actual books) since my handheld days.

I have read on screens 3.5" - 13" screens, but never had an actual e-reader.

So last year September I decided to get The Kindle Voyage on a whim as always. Considering I get 30 days to return at BB, I figured I had nothing to lose.

It was the proverbial love at first sight, what a difference with a device specifically meant for reading, no glare, no shadows and so real book like.

Then there is the added advantage of battery life. I can easily go 2+ weeks and still have around 25% of the battery left, which is amazing.

Most of my ebooks were from Amazon anyway and I read them with Kindle apps on my various devices, so that made the migration easy.

I do have one particular favorite in iBooks but it's DRM protected and no way to convert easily, I would just have to re buy it eventually.

I am also pleasantly surprised at the support provided by Amazon, the updates that add features without messing things up, and the support forums.

Of Course it gave me an opportunity to get new cases, so I have 1 sleeve, 3 cases and one coming in tomorrow. :D

Just wanted to share my experience with an "Oldie but Goodie", and my new toy.

I've gone eInk for reading back in December of 2009 and haven't looked back. I'm just keeping my fingers crossed that eInk readers don't die.

I kind of worry about that as well. There was supposed to be a Voyage 2 in December and Amazon nixed that. The original Voyage that I have, came out in 2014.

I am hoping that is not a sign of Amazon cutting back slowly from Kindles.

I got 3 updates since September, one as recent as last week and that makes me hopeful that Amazon hasn't given up, at least not yet.

I have high hopes for Kobo as well. Sony got out of the game a while ago.

Being completely out of the eInk technology loop I didn't realize Sony had got out as I didn't know the existence of Kobo.

I have read good things about Kobo and that they are more flexible than any Kindle or Nook.

I am presuming you like yours, which model do you have?

I have the Aura HD, which is a couple of years old. I like a bigger screen

    I agree 1000%, CDG.

I've been a Kindle device reader for 6 years now. Had the keyboard Kindle ( still do).

Got the voyager this Xmas for the backlight and LOVE it. It's hard to convince some how good it is. Especially outdoors. Like a real book , the more light the better it is. And works with polarized sunglasses.

If you have enough light to turn the back light off ( and wifi or 3 G) it will last nearly a month on a charge.

iPad or tablet reading doesn't hold a candle to a Kindle. The only exception are photos. But my devices are synch'd so that is not a problem.

Have you tried the audio/kindle synching ?

Hello vf, glad to see we agree so completely on a device.

Not sure what you mean by audio/Kindle syncing, I don't have audio books but my books are synched across my devices through the Kindle app on them.

So how many cases do you have for your Voyage?

Here is my method of reading when seated at the table.

I'm good with cases. For the Voyage, I have the Amazon origami ( not leather) it is a perfect stand too.

Whispersync for audio. I used to listen to audiobooks a lot. It keeps your place to the page between the book and digital audiobook.

So you keep a little car in your purse?

I bet two of those can't 'park' side by side in a dual slotted Mac or PC, eh?

    Cute though.

Enjoy your Kindle. I used to always by 3G & wifi. This time I did wifi only. Very easy to use my iPhone as the wifi source hotspot if I'm away from home.

    What did you get?

Btw have you noticed that on a iPad, the iPhone hotspot turns on automatically if you chose the iPhone 6S wifi link on the iPad?

    Saves a step.

My first two readers, from Sony came with Wi-Fi & 3G (Wi-Fi only was not an option). The Kobo is Wi-Fi only (3G was not an option). But I never used any of the connectivity on any of them.

On the Kindle Paperwhite that I got for my Mom a couple of years ago I went as far as permanently disabling Wi-Fi connection so that she wouldn't get a firmware update by accident.

@dmapr. For a software guy, you seem very 'old school' at times.

To me the beauty of 3G Kindle is this: finished a book on the beach in the Caribbean. And then downloaded a new book, on the beach free of charge ( well the cost of the book).

    Very convenient.

I don't read on the beach

I haven't met a book yet that I was ready to read "as is", I always want to tweak the formatting first. So being able to download directly has never been attractive.

I also seem to always have so many unread books on my reader that I'm never in danger of running out

@viewfly, I have the WiFi only without the special offers. I typically have the WiFi turned off and turn it on to download material or update software.

i read several books simultaneously. As of now i have 61 books on my Voyage of which 4 are unopened, 6 completed, and the rest in various stages of completion.
