Hello all! I am new to the forum, I joined while looking for help with my StarTac. Takes a while for technology to work it's way to my part of Montucky. I don't live in the middle of nowhere, but you can see it from here. I still use my StarTac, and love it! :loony: I do also occassionally use my Droid X. This seems like quite a resource, with some fun people and I am fortunate to be here..

:D Hey, I am new here to so welcome. I live in a place that is often called Fawntucky but we actually have one of the few cell towers around. I'll have to post a pick--it is supposed to look like a tree. LOL

We have Sprint & Verizon in the entire valley but T-Mobile is going to hook into the tower so we are so "down town" now but the coverage due to valleys, trees, and mountains is a bit questionable.

Thanks for the welcome.:browani: I have been coast to coast, Florida to North Carolina, to Seattle to San Diego, and everywhere inbetween. have always had cell service. Now I can see a cell tower from my front yard and sometimes I can't keep a call while I am at home. Be moving within a month, just a short 240 mile hop east, so I will keep my eyes out for towers I can share pics of. I very happily use my StarTac and Droid together.:coolshade My first phone, with my latest. I have been asked many times by younger cell enthusiasts if the old 'Tac is new LOL!

Wow! I would like to see the faux tree cell tower. I have stayed with Verizon because they have always treated me well, and I have had excellent reception with few dead spots(except for my current house, but internet and sms always work) with the handsets I have had. Long ago Sprint was the odd man out for me, because I didn't live in the right spot at the time so service was not very good. Things sure have changed. We have so many choices today. I regret not seeking this site long ago. what a wealth of knowledge there is here.

Thanks for the reminder! I'll walk down to take a snap today.

V has been horrible for me. They also have our landlines. The coverage here is about the same between Verizon and Sprint but based on the interest in my business and how much they gave me in incentives, Sprint won me over.

Coverage around these parts was dismal for a very long time and has only recently improved but you are right that things have changed a lot.

Yeah I remember when Sprint built that huge monopine in Fawnskin. Surprised that nobody has co-located on it yet even though it's been there for more than 6 years now. Sprint also built a similar tower in Big Bear next to the Bowling Barn in town. I wish they would have built one in Moonridge as everybody else has a tower there except for Sprint but at least they have decent coverage in most areas around the lake. Like you said the coverage is challenging due to all the trees and rough terrain.

By the way I've stayed at the Quail Cove Cabins a few times in Fawnskin. It's a nice place to stay for a weekend as it's less crowded compared to the other side of the lake where the resorts are located.

Thanks for the reply. Yeah, things are changing here slowly but surely.

Quail Cove has changed owners twice now. I think it is one of the best kept secrets around these parts.

The Radio Shack guys were shocked at my speed tests--I laughed and told them I lived near a tower but they hadn't seen any so fast ever.

Here is the Fawnskin tree tower and another view of the faux tree tower in my little town.

Yeah they were in the process of new ownership when we were there. Cabin # 2 is my favorite. Close to the jacuzzi (when it works). :) I think we came in on a Tuesday in January and had the whole place to ourselves. Tried to find a place to eat in the main area of town but everything was closed. Had to drive into Big Bear.
