Bluetooth for any phone with 2.5mm connector (Click Here)

(Yes, it is a bit pricey, but then luxury & technology have never been cheap. $180.)

Just this past weekend I saw ads in the newspaper inserts (Good Guys, Best Buy and others) selling the same product for about the same price.

I've noticed that headset as well. It looks like a great accessory, but at that pricetag, I'm not sure I'll bite or not. But believe me, I've been thinking about it.

What is nice is that the thing has adjustable volume, the turbo button, and in-use indicator. I also tend to prefer the boom style headsets.

Maybe one of these days. [IMG]

Kevin, I (my post) about this same item some time ago. Please explain to me what are the advantages of this unit. I mean, for the price tag I would expect it to cook me dinner as well.
I have thought about getting one, but I would like to know what the benefit of using one with the Sanyo 4900 would be for me.

    Scan,

Your comment was "deja vu" for me (unsure of spelling). 10 years ago my wife told me: "I won't touch a computer until it learns to wipe my (expletive deleted)." A few years later she was emailing, surfing the net and buying things on line. (I think I created a monster!)

To answer your "benefits" inquiry. To me the benefits would be:

    1. No more tangled cords. (I drive a "stick" shift and the headset is always get tangled when I shift.
    2. While walking, the phone can remain inconspicuous without the telltale sign of a cord. (On time I tried having the phone in my zippered jacket. The cord got stuck in it.)
    3. Since the distance between the headset and the phone can be a respectable distance away, I can leave the phone in charging while I'm I walking around and talking.

But the only "real" reason I list all of the above is that I like gadgets. (Yes, I know, you will usually see me playing the devil's advocate and ranting about how much this world has become way too gadget-oriented, but in reality, I love toys just as much as the next person. I upgrade my PDA every 2 to 3 years, my phone every other year, my computer every 3 years. I have a Canon G2 (4mp) digital camera, a 10gig MindStor device, and on and on and on.)

I saw a wireless headset in Radio Shack yesterday selling for $99. Don't know for sure that it's Bluetooth, but packaging said it would work 'up to 30 feet' - sounds like Bluetooth. It looked OK, too. I don't remember whose name was on the package, though.

There are specific technical qualifications for a wireless device to use the Bluetooth label. I have likewise seen these "poor man" versions of short-range wireless. Read the specifications and you will see that most use the same technology as cordless phones. Still there is no reason to believe that these devices can't supply the basic service of a wireless headset. Maybe I should buy one and give report back.

that's interesting. Given that cordless phone technology seems to be less expensive than bluetooth, is there any reason to pay more for a bluetooth headset? Would the bluetooth provide clearer sound? The signal distance seems about the same (about 30 feet)

I just bought one from a Verizon store in Houston for $149.99 (plus tax). I've only had a chance to use it once and it seems to have a lot of feedback and noise. I could here my voice and all the background noise echoing in the earpiece. I'm not sure if this can be corected, if not it's going back.

It also will NOT activate the voice dial feature of a 720C from the headset. I have a 270C with the bluetooth kit and the Motorola headset can activate the voicedial so you don't need to be able to acces the phone to make a call.

Update: Their website for this item is a little misleading. If you look at the link "Radio Shack" below, it does not include the adaptor even though the adaptor is pictured (see the Features list). The unit with the adaptor is $179.

However, this unit compat with CDMA IS only $99. It does not specify "Bluetooth."
    _______

As Popeye would say: "Well blow me down!"

Radio Shack has this unit on their website for $99. It has got to be a misprint!
