I received a text from a friend who had called Samsung's support dept. Samsung informed him that on the 21st replacements should be available. Subsequent to that, I read this.

That's good news, will you be getting one again?

I really feel limited without an accurate stylus. As much as I am very displeased with Samsung's irresponsible deployment of defective phones, since this will most likely be my last phone, I may as well get the most out of it. All this to say, "yeah, I will get the replacement Note 7."

What all do you use the stylus for again? cursive writing and then convert to text? drawing? games?

@palandri: The first and second. Mostly the first. I don't play games. As of Windows 10, I swore off my addiction to Solitaire. I've been "dry" for 2 years now. LOL (I started with Win3.1 and every upgrade since. Finally, when I got the laptop with Win10, I promised myself "no more!" I could play it for hours, trying to play faster and faster and faster. So, knowing how something so simple could get me, I decided it wasn't safe for me to play games. But if I did, it would most likely be a SIM game.)

My wife plays games on her phone and tablet, especially while she engages in her 2nd-most addiction -- watching The Price is Right, while knitting, while texting, while drinking her afternoon coffee.

Yesterday I received a text message from AT&T telling me that the replacement Note 7's were available. Unfortunately, when I received the message, I was going through one of my (almost predictable) afternoon sicknesses. (Without looking at the time, I can tell when it is 2pm -- I get tired, weak, and queasy. It lasts about 45 minutes to an hour. Even though I haven't had chemo for my leukemia since 2014, I still go through these daily debilitating episodes.)

Anywhoz, I planned on going in this morning when they opened. While talking the rep, he told me it was good that I didn't come the prior evening because the store "got hammered" with a line (out the door!) of people wanting to get their replacement. He also said I was "lucky" because my choice color (blue) was in high demand, but he still had one. I got it.

One odd observation: In the box for the S7 Edge, the earbuds came in a nice hard plastic carrying case. The the more expensive Note 7 came with earbuds in a disposable soft plastic baggy. To me, that is just one more confirmation that Samsung really doesn't value the Note series as much as they do the S series phones. The Note seems to be viewed as the unwanted stepchild of the company.

Yesterday I read an article about how to ID the new Note 7's. One characteristic was supposed to be that the battery indicator icon would be green. Mine as white like the original. But last night at 10:30pm I got an update and it is now green in all display screens (Home screen, Always On display, Night clock). Just this morning a T-Mobile user said he just got the update. I guess they are not shipping with the update.

I wonder how long it will be until someone claims their replacement Note 7 went up in smoke.

Incidentally, on the Lufthansa flight today learned that the Note 7 is to "stay turned off the entire flight".

@palandri: As a reality check, I never had an issue with the original Note 7. Nor am I currently having any issue with the replacement.

(I only turned in the phone because my wife kept becoming increasingly worried. Some people are like that.)

The problem with that case is it will probably get iPhone users banned from flights. LOL
