I really want a 3 MP camera phone, but without the atrocious red bars (Samsung's SCH-A990 w/ Verizon). I really like the Nokia N93, and am willing to splurge and buy an unlocked, imported one. Has anyone here bought an unlocked one and is using it now on one of the major carriers? Are they planning on bringing the N93 to the US carriers anytime soon, thereby bringing the price down (maybe)?

I'm probably going to use Cingular or Verizon. The N93 is "Network-UMTS / GSM 900 / GSM 1800 / GSM 1900" which, if I'm reading up on this right, will let me put any SIM card in there and let it work, since it's already unlocked. (I live in an area with 800 and 1900 mhz) Is this correct? Can I just go to a cellular store and sign up for a plan w/o a phone? I guess I could just sign up for one of those free phones and take the SIM from that...

I hear the SE K790 is nice too, but i get paranoid about candy bar phones b/c I worry about scratching the face... Can anyone recommend any other 3MP phone out there than those 3?

And I'm not normally as electronic-inept as this, (really! I swear! :p ) but when it comes to wireless stuff i'm a duck in the water...

Any GSM phone used in the US will be at a disadvantage if it does not support 850 as well as 1900. Even if you use T-Mobile they now have 850 roaming agreements in many areas now.

My own opinion (hey it's my opinion!) is that if you want a good digital camera then get one! Counting on your mobile phone's camera to be any decent at all is just denial. Considering that you can now get a 4MP camera for just shy of $100 why would someone settle for a 3MP camera phone which will likely be a lot pricier than something without a 3MP camera built in. Just an opnion.

Well, I agree with your reasoning, and actually the reason I want a nice camera phone is because I do have a nice digital camera that I use for real photography, but it's too big to carry around when I hang out with friends. I'd rather have a multi-function device like the N93, you know?

I just want to stress what Telekom has said, especially if you go with Cingular, the phone will be a paperweight most of the time for you without the 850 band & as Telekom stated T-Mobile does have 850 roaming in parts of the country, without that the phone would be useless.

This can be real important depending on where you live too.

As for using it with Verizon, it can't be done they are a CDMA carrier & this phone works with GSM only.

You would be better off waiting till they make an 800/1900 version of this phone & make do with the digital camera for now.
