Anybody have issues with Nokia buzzing noise, poor reception, etc.? My 6340i (s) all have an occasional buzzing noise, so-so reception, etc., in this Cingular GAIT system. (We have 4 6340i phones, part of a family plan.) I made an phone-mount external antenna that reduces the problem greatly, but I'd like to hear from others, and especially, anyone else who has found or made a better antenna! (Antenna made from Radioshaft FME adapter cable, by stripping ~2-3/3 inches of shielding away from the end of the cable, effectively creating a 1/4 wave antenna sized between 1.5 (1900 MHz) and 3.5 (850 MHz) inches.) With what I see on the web about this buzzing noise problem, I'm surprised that I can't find more on solutions such as my homebrew antenna. It reduces the buzzing noise to less than 10% of original incidence rate and magnitude, and improves reception too. Anyway, still looking for a better solution - I'm not an RF Engineer. TIA.
Tin foil - you're kidding, right? Ya, I looked for that, but never could find any. Where do you find it? I also thought about using aluminum foil (which I could find, unlike tin foil), but of course, foil would last about how long - 5 minutes? before tearing off a cell phone being used and banged around on a hip. I'm looking for real antenna solutions - not foil, not cheesy fake antenna "booster" crap, etc. TIA, as usual.
There are quite a few Nokias which are known for the famed "transmitter buzz" I had a 6590i which had it and it was very very loud and annoying under quiet conditions. I recently got a refurb unit because of some other problems it was having and thankfully it does not have it at all. It's like talking on a completely different unit now without the buzz. I've read elsewhere that many of the 6340i's suffer from it.
I tried ATT briefly in the past with a Nokia 6360.. constantly heard a buzz and switched the phone out 3 different times and then tried calls on all the other phones in the store. all there....that same buzzing noise. I was told later that it's common on the TDMA system... and that maybe on the nokia 6360 it was just intensified. My guess would be they didn't fix it even when they switched to GSM. needless to say i didn't keep the service. I stuck with Verizon...just was curious to try it and they give you that 30 day trial.
I would stay away from the 6340 and similar Nokias as they all have that buzzing problem, save some exceptions that came out good from the factory. Bad quality control in Nokia's part if you ask me. That's part of the reason I switched from Nokia to other brands since other manufacturers seem to have better control over these issues.
