Re: Preliminary Nokia 6131 Review - Part I... viewfly I can understand not having IR since I haven't used IR since my Palm III days, but why the radio! The specs for 6126 also look entirely different layout wise, before the 2 spec sheets were identical. I guess the spec sheet getting customized could be interpreted as the release is getting closer ? Will you still be interested if it does not have the radio? Steve are you going to stay with the LG then?
Re: Preliminary Nokia 6131 Review - Part I... One possible reason is that Cingular thinks they can sell streaming radio as they are trying to do on the LG. Why let customers have radio for free if you can charge for it? If that turns out to be true, I think it's sleazy. If viewfly's source is right and "late August" is after 8/19, then my decision is made. The LG is working out OK. I think most of its flaws (that I care about) are things that can be fixed over time - as the firmware is updated and the 3G network gets a little more mature.
Re: Preliminary Nokia 6131 Review - Part I... Charlyee, you still pay bills at the store? Ever heard of online bill pay? That's a shame they are taking off the FM Radio. No big deal to me anyways. The latest rumor says it should release on 8/17 on time for the "back to school" promos. Hopefully, this is it. About the microphone location, here's how you can find it: make a phone call from your 6126 to your landline. Then listen to your landline phone for any noises absorbed by the 6126's microphone. Start sliding your finger around where you think the microphone is while having your landline in your ear. You'll know when you've reached the microphone's location when you hear a loud scratching sound, which is your finger rubbing over the microphone's location. Let me know if you find it this way!
Re: Preliminary Nokia 6131 Review - Part I... I have to start my reply with another profound post from HoFo: "The Nokia 6126 will come out when Cingular releases it. ". This one is from someone with the inside scoop...... LOL bobolito, my going to the store is just a excuse to harass my friend who is the senior tech there,to play with the phones and see what is coming, funny they still had the 6126 release date as 7/23/06. I tried this when I first saw your post on HoFo and just tried this again. I give up, I cannot find any place that the scratching happens. I will just wait for you to get the 6126 and let me know where it is....
I thought I would post a couple of pictures. For those of who don't know, that is the Chicago skyline with John Hancock building in the forefront. PS: I am a very poor photographer so the picture quality is not the greatest.
Wirelessly posted (Walkguru's: LG-CU500 Obigo/WAP2.0 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 UP.Link/6.3.0.0.0) Very nice thanks.
Call me picky, but one thing I don't like about the 6131 is that there are only four signal strength bars, as shown in Charlyee's picture. I can handle 4 bars for battery strength, but I'd really like to see the signal variations a little better. My old Nokia 6200 had seven bars for each, running up the sides of the screen. The LG CU500 has 5 signal bars and 4 battery bars, which is the bare minimum IMHO.
Of course you are being picky , but so am I. I don't like it either and also the fact the battery meter shows "fill" and not "bars". I like to charge my battery at 20% remaining and I am too precise (yes I know there are other more descriptive words for it but I will stick to "precise")a person to be happy with a tentaive. I think I did mention this before. Something that I do like that I did not mentioned before, is if I close the flip in the middle of an application, calendar, to-do whatever, then it stays at the last spot if I don't exit out of it. This way I can quickly go back to it after a rude interruption (usually from my SO ).
Nice pics, and that with you being a poor photographer. Imagine if you were a great photographer! I also don't like the 4 bars either. At least 5 would be ok. I've seen some Samsungs have 6 bars. However, we are just nitpicking. You mentioned something about the battery indicator having "fill" and not bars. How many fill increments does the battery indicator have? Is it like the one on Sony Ericsson phones?
I noticed in your picture of the internal display that the "Cingular" name wasn't on it. Is there a way to disable the carrier name from appearing on either display on the 6131?? Not that I mind it but just curious...:browani:
Mike, I have a blank operator logo downloaded. It is the same one I had for my 6230. It actual is dual purpose, it ofcourse keeps the screen clean of clutter and also it tells me on I am not on Cingular Orange because at all other times the "Cingular" comes back. bobolito, thanks you are too kind , not only am I poor photographer, I have very little patience and also do not hold my camera staright or wait until it focuses as you see in the following pictures. About the battery fill, I don't know, I don't remember what my SE did, how was it? I didn't track it but I will now. Ok budney, just for you, because you have such a good taste in devices (and also because I am loving showing of my toy ofcourse). Trust me the photographs do not do justice what the actual screen looks like.... . 1.Calendar Screen 2. The wallpaper the 6131 is usually shown with. 3. The local Cingular Store on Google Map, just in case...
I was in the Cingular store in Salem NH. and the Rep told me the release for the 6126 is mid August.....
lol "precise" is a good word. :lmao: Who cares about Freud anyway? He was too fixated on body parts. :rotfl:
Yeah, it is scheduled for the 17th, but some people are starting to claim that date isn't going to hold and there will be another delay for late August or even September, but that's nothing more than speculation. I don't know what to believe. We'll just have to wait until the 17th to see. Now check out this store display. Click to enlarge: Charlyee, those pics are awesome. I love the look of Google Maps on that phone. Much better than my V635 for sure. The SE phones don't use bars in their battery indicator. It just has many small increments so you can't say how many bars the battery has, but you could say like 3/4 full or a bit over 1/2 charge, etc. I was wondering how detailed was the battery indicator in your 6131. Does it go from full to mid in one shot or does it have small increments in the filling of the battery?
I feel the same way and I told the Rep the phone is already overdue, he also told me with my upgrade the phone can be had for 188.00 with a 50.00 mail in rebate.
bobilito, thanks, now you have done it ........ Here are some more pictures: 1. Wa Home on Opera 2. WA Forums om Opera. 3. Routing from my house to work. About the battery, I will keep an eyes on it but this is what it did. I shut it off Saturday night, it was around 3/4 full, I turned it on Sunday morning and it was around 1/3 full. Sometime during the day it went to 1/8 and stayed there until it completely shutoff. Another thing I found out yesterday was that the camera goes to stand by after the low battery indication at 1/8 full.
i let my lg cu 500 get to the low warning indecater and the screen dimmed down, and stayed that way till i charged it up. phones are getting smarter and smarter.:loony:
That doesn't seem normal. Why would the battery go from 3/4 to 1/3 with the phone being off? By the way, were you using the small font or the normal font in Opera Mini?
I observed the battery again, now I am pretty sure it goes from full to around 2/3 to around 1/3 to around 1/8 or 1/6. See this is what I don't like about about having "fill" and not "bars", it is just not precise. The battery does go down even when the phone is shut off. Last night it was 2/3, this morning it was still 2/3 when powered up but then it went down to 1/3 without even using it. I am using the normal font on the Mini. One application I wanted to mention after reading Steve's excellent review on the CU50 is the "GoTo". Same as the LG you can put all the favorite menu items in here, there is no limit to the no. of items but not every menu option is available for it. eg. the "operator selection" is not available. The 6230 had the same "GoTo" also.
Yeah, come to think of it, the 6200 had that too. I guess I never realized how useful it could be when I had that phone.
