Thanks for the info ^_^. Sorry, but I don't read french. Also, I'm concerned about one part in the directions.
Did I miss something? In the past, when I copied my phone address book to the SIM, muliple numbers in the phone memory would translate to John1, John2, John 3, etc. Today I deleted my phone address, and used the SIM memory. But it had multiple phone listings under one name, plus...it had email addresses too. Basically all the info that was in the phone memory is now also in the SIM. Is the new, or does it have to do with the capacity of my new 3G SIM card?
Hello Jade I am sorry because I do not know the answer. I used Phoenix/Diego with Windows XP SP2. For this reason I did not have this problem Goog luck
I don't have a 3G SIM in hand to try, with my old Blue SIM copying a contact to SIM behaves as expected.
No,I know which version I have. What version do you have? Windows XP Home, Windows XP Media, or Windows XP Pro?
Well, my 3G SIM in my 6230 behaved the same old expected way regarding the address book. But the 3G in the 6131 works really differently: it's great to have the SIM the same as the phone book. Off Topic: I went to 5.5 firmware, and that version clearly fixes the pop and clicks problem. It was very strong here in Boston, and now it's gone...very quiet and clear.
I think this has more to do with the way the 6131 handles the phonebook in the SIM. If names are identical, it will disguise the entries to appear as one single entry with several phone numbers. This is why it is impossible to create two entries with the same name on the 6131. However, using the same 3G SIM in my old Motorola V635 you could create more than one entry with identical names on the SIM. That's because the Moto treats them just as they are, as separate entries, whereas the 6131 wants you to believe there are multiple phone numbers in one entry. Now I understand what you asked me in the PM. What I still don't understand is why no GSM phone to date is able to assign individual ringtones, pictures, etc. to entries stored in the SIM? I don't see why it is not possible to link pictures and ringtones in phone memory to phone number entries in the SIM.
I just ran the following experiment with my 3G SIM: Copied a 3-phone contact from phone memory to SIM on 6131 Verified that it shows as a single entry with three phone numbers (although you can't change type) Moved the SIM to the old 6820 Verified there's only one entry on the SIM, only one phone number shown, 249 free slots Coupled with the fact that my Blue SIM is still treated the old way, I'd say there's definitely something in the SIM to facilitate this, not just 6131.
In my case, it even kept the email address for the person, and the 3 numbers I have for them. Plus, the voice recognition was working too. But that is no surprise I guess. This is a big improvement from the way SIM cards/phones worked together in the past.
Yes, since the voice recognition is independent of the storage, it works for all contacts, phone & SIM (works with old SIM as well).
ok, fellow 6131'ers, I need some help. After upgrading to 5.5 firmware, getting the settings back to normal is not going as smoothly as the first time I received the phone. 1. I can't get my Earthlink email to retain my password. I've saved it within the phone, but every time I check my mail, it still asks me for the password. I saved the Messages>Message Settings>E-mail Settings>SMTP password. And also Incoming mail settings>POP3 password. What did I do wrong? 2. I can get google maps, and Opera mini to work. I can go to gmail web page and read my gmail, but I cannot get the downloaded gmail app. to work as before. It's seems the certificate is not downloading. I keep getting that that I don't have the appropiate certificate. Help! The upgrade is great, got rid of the pops and clicks, but this is annoying.
Re: GMail -- you will need the attached certificate. Unfortunately, the only way I found you can put it on the phone so it recognizes it is by hosting it on the web. You then enter the URL into the phone browser -- and voila! I don't use email, so can't help you there
This is just not working. Where to you put this certificate? BTW, you labeled the file .crt, I changed it to .cer according to others on the web. Is that correct? Before the firmware upgrade, I got the gmail app to work just fine by simply downloading it, without the process you mentioned above. But I tried it, and I still have the same problem. Regarding the e-mail issue, I have that solved. Nokia software is a bit confusing in that it appears there are 2 locations for email passwords. So I was in the wrong area. The correct place is Menu>Messaging>email>Options>Manage Accounts> choose email account and then incoming and outgoing server is where the username and password is stored. I'm still struggling with gmail
You have to host the file on the web somewhere, then point phone's internal browser to it, so the certificate will get downloaded. That's the only way I found to get it on the phone so it would install correctly. I haven't used GMail on the phone prior to 5.50, so I can't tell you whether it worked before. Glad you solved the password problem!
When i download it with the internal browser, it gets becomes a txt file extension (actually .cer.txt). Still does not get gmail to work. Any further advice would be appreciated. Is there something in the firmware pack that gives this certificate? P.S.: My 6230 never had gmail appl downloaded. So I tried it tonight. The gmail appl downloaded and it worked fine. I can also see the proper Verisign certificate there. So I do not think it is necessary to add this certificate in any special way. I think the 5.5 flash did not quite install everything. Something is missing.
Thanks dmapr! That worked! It seems that indeed the correct extension is .crt NOT .cer that all the web sites that I've googled claim or use. That is the only difference I can see. For example here: http://www.fourteenfloor.com/2006/11/07/certificate-for-gmail-for-mobile-application Very glad to have gmail appl working again. I think it must be lost during reflash. Thank you very much for taking the time to help me with this. I was about ready to give up, if the fellow who flashed the phone for me didn't have an answer.
No problem! I didn't lose any of my apps during reflash, but I keep them on the flash card -- maybe something to consider should you need another firmware upgrade in the future
I guess it's my turn to ask a question When I look in the Options for the applications on my phone, there are 4 choices in the Application access -> Communication -> Network access: Ask every time, Ask first time only, Always allowed and Not allowed. Always allowed is grayed out. Does anyone have the Always allowed enabled?
I have done a little more poking around. Turns out, for Nokia, the setting is part of a separate "product profile". On older DCT-4 phones I can also turn off the GSM HR codec using the product profile. Now if you look at the data posted here you'll note that there's a "CSP" setting. By toggling that I can make a Cingular-branded Nokia phone show the network selection menu (it controls several different things, such as the ability to read the VM retrieval number off the SIM card, "Confirm SIM service actions" menu, "Cell info display" menu). However, turning that on on my 6131 did not remove the manual network selection with my Cingular SIM.
My turn for a question. The vers 5.5 upgrade is great, because it gets rid of all the pops and clicks. But did I remember that it also displays the date (and the time) on the mini screen in power save mode? Or did I make that up? I've search and can't find where to set that up. Help!
