sorry to get back to this so late, but I was in Washington today. What a tremendous amount of work bobolito! Thanks for taking the time to do of that. Yes, there is something different here. I read your post above, and began to wonder if I was mistaken. Of course it didn't help that I watched a news broadcast last night about early onset of Alzheimer's disease. So I got a sinking feeling in my soft brain. I took out my old 64K SIM and placed it back in thet 6131...the SIM didn't register, but after that I could go to the Menus and look for Network Selection menu...and it was not there! I put back the 3G SIM and viola!, the Network Selection returned. Whew! I'm not ready to retire yet. I don't know what is going on. Seems to be the SIM, but maybe it's the old SIM that is the problem. P.S. Yes, the flip button is very convenient. I find that I use it about half the time, mostly when I have one hand tied up. P.P.S.: Off Subject: When I was driving today, something occured to me. The voice recogition works for all the addresses in our phone book. Amazing. Yet, today I was driving around, knew a friends phone number, but he was not in my Nokia phone book. Why can't I just say the number, 1 203 xxx-xxxx and have the phone recognize it and dial. I mean it is only 10 numbers to recognized, 0-9! Is there a way to do this? Can other phones do this?? Anyone know?
Some phones can do that, IIRC. They have a mode where you say you're dialing a number and then just dictate digits.
OK, I had a chance to play with my girlfriend's Samsung D807. Voice dialing allows you to say either "Call name" and it'll attempt to match and entry in the book or "Call +14085551212" and it'll dial the digits (it does indeed recognize the plus sign as well) With my AT&T Wireless SIM the network selection menu becomes available. It is still disabled with her Cingular 3G SIM.
It would be nice if my Nokia did that! Calling a number via voice recognition that is not alreay in the phone book would be useful sometimes...but not a show stopper.
Just a little FYI: the 6131, well 6126 actually, club may grow tremendously soon. Rumor on howardforums.com is that Cingular is testing the 6126 again. Man, it was neat having a different phone than everyone else. Aw well, fun while it lasted! Here's the link: http://207.210.82.132/showpost.php?p=8401341&postcount=818
Interesting news. I will believe it when I see it. But the 6131 will have the FM and IrDA. But good news for all of us, since it may mean support
Do you mean support from Cingular? Or from Nokia? I doubt we'll see any from Nokia as both 6126 and 6133 have been released in North America but that hasn't affected their stance on not supporting 6131. Not sure what kind of support from Cingular we might be looking for.
Well, to add a little info to the rumors, Chinook Wireless has added the 6126 to their offerings (after I showed my 6131 to my local csr's and they ooo'd and awe'd--maybe I had a little to do with this???). They have an agreement with Cingular to be part of their Nationwide Network, and everytime I talk to Chinook about my 6131, they mention that Cingular helps them to handle phone compatability issues: "we'll have to talk to Cingular about that". Nokia also helped Chinook build its new GSM network infrastructure. So maybe Cingular used Chinook to trial the 6126 for them. Also, right after Chinook offered the 6126, my VMI indicator started working. And its a bummer not having the only 6131-style phone in town any more. But on the other hand, I can recommend the 6126 to my friends, and maybe someday I'll find someone to play Sensor with.
Since the two phones are similiar, whatever support Cingy gives to one may spill over to the other, like Wildrock states with the VM problem for some. Also the MMS video problem. BTW, if I had a Nokia problem, why couldn't I send it over to the UK for repairs? Seems like it should be ok. I bought it from there. Also, Nokia has supported the 6131 somewhat by including Cingular in its set up pages for phone settings.
Nokia UK will support it if you bought it from there, I was just saying that Nokia USA won't. Yes, they include the setup settings for all their phones but they offer no support beyond that. I bet that Cingular will make Nokia fix all incompatibilities with their network in the 6126 firmware and that's it BTW, when I called before with 6131 & my VMI problems, they were happy to help, too. They reset my VM, gave me the instructions for 6101 or 6102 and said that everything should be working.
Cingular is testing the 6126 again? LOL! The drama is not over yet! I sure hope this fixes the compatibility issues with MMS video and video streaming. Those are the only things I can't get to work on the 6131. I will be the first to step into a store the day it is released just to see the differences between my 6131 and this new 6126. There's gotta be something different about it, plus it will be fun to show it to the store clerk's and see their faces when I tell them I got mine months ago!
Bobo - I know this is OT, but I really like your new avatar. Has this been discussed somewhere else? Where do you get these things? Are you shadowboxing for a reason, or is this some kind of subtle metaphor? SW
I was just in the chinook store, paying my bill and going through my monthly bill hassles with them over charging errors. But I asked them about the 6126, and they said it was really popular. So of course I had to show them the 6131 again, and mention the obvious differences. But the interesting thing is that they said that the 6126 has been adopted by all of their network technicians and field engineer as their "official" phone. So at least they recognize a good thing!
That's interesting. I had a store visiting sales rep tell me the same thing about the 6230 about a year ago. He said it was considered a real workhorse. At least the network guys enjoy the same phone we do.
Just to add another data point to this interesting discussion. My Cingular branded LG CU500 has the following behavior. With a Cingular 64K 3G SIM, the Settings > Connection menu shows: 1 Network Profiles 2 USB Connection mode 3 Dial Up Networking With a T-Mobile SIM, it shows: 1 Network Profiles 2 USB Connection mode 3 Network selection - Automatic - Manual 4 Preferred Lists 5 Dial Up Networking Using Manual network selection, I can see all of the local GSM networks and their IDs. The Preferred Lists appear to be T-Mobile and its roaming partners, but I could be mistaken about this. I unlocked it with the Cingular-supplied procedure, and beyond that I have not modified this phone at all. Bottom line: at least in the case of the CU500, it appears to be the SIM that enables or disables network selection. SW
That's correct. But there is no question about the SIM disabling the network selection menus. The question is on which phones it is doing it, and there's also another discrepancy on which version of the Cingular SIM (3G or 32k) is blocking network selection on certain unbranded phones.
Hi, I have Nokia 6131 for 1,5 weeks. And I am getting Blank Screen in my "mini display" Until now, I got blank screen 3 times. and it can happen anytime. Wildrock, as far as read from your posts, you were getting blank screen too. Did you find out why that happens, and fix that? Anyone have any idea how can i fix that?
I never really found out why. But when I did reset the phone and revert back to default theme it went away. I have since moved to a custom theme, and have had the blank screen show up a few times, but only twice, I think in the last month or so. If it gets bad again, I'll reset the phone again, and go from there.
Hoping everyone a happy new year! My question is has anyone tried to play a WMV file on the 6131? I tried to play a WMV 9 file and my 6131 says it is not supported. However, Nokia specs say that it is supposed to support it. I also tried an MP4 video file with no luck. Anyone?
Thank you with dmapr!!! My NOKIA 6131 was programmed successfully. The firmware installed is RM-115_DP20_3.00_sw-5.50. Better wishes for 2007
Hearing that you did it correctly has got me willing to try XD. I was wondering if anyone could PM me the FW file and the info on HOW to flash it. Should I keep my sim card and battery in during the flash? Will the programs work with Windows XP? I read somewhere that Phoenix shouldn't be used on XP Home, is this true?
