Thanks! It will be interesting to see how my new SIM will work with the 6131 when I get it, but that won't happen for a few weeks. I did read that some people were able to solve the VM icon not working by getting a 3G SIM for their 6131 but I think that was in areas outside California. Hopefully I won't have a problem or else that will be a big problem for me. I gotta have that VM indicator working. On the V635 I know there are some hacks I can perform to fix the text message issue, but the problem is not as bad to make it a priority within my time schedule so I haven't explored it yet. After all, the VM indicator works fine.
Hey, that's a back-handed way of announcing that your getting a 6131! Congratulations. I'll be driving through NJ this weekend...let you know if VM icon works there. Really, you shouldn't have any problems on the east coast, from what I've read. vf
I am getting a 6131 since months ago! LOL! I just haven't been able to due to other priorities. But I guess the time is finally coming. I believe the VM icon problem doesn't depend on where you are physically located, but rather where your account is from. But that's just a guess gained from how other features work on GSM. Have you heard of anyone whose VM icon started behaving differently by merely traveling to a different market?
Good question. I personally see little reason why it would be a SIM issue either, but rather a network-phone problem. I know it is different today, but back in TDMA-time, my VM icon would not work when I traveled to Texas. Basically, Cingular couldn't pass on the VM flags to the network down there. Perhaps because I may have been roaming on another network...which was part of the problem elsewhere. I would still hear the three beeps, but no icon until I returned to the NY-CT area. I hope your happy with the 6131. I am. The battery life will be ok for you, or do you plan to use it during 'light' times? The Nokia E50 looks nice, 5 hours of talk time, but missing some features, plus it is a candy bar. vf
I don't get VM notification on any GSM phone when I am in Northern WI roaming on I Wireless. VM works fine when roaming on T-Mobile, Einstein PCS, and others. I also hope you will be happy with the 6131.
According to HoFo, version 5.5 is available for flashing. It supposedly takes care of the VM problem in the CA market. I don't know what other functions were upgraded. So if someone was to order to the phone today from a reputable place, I am presuming they would get the 5.5?
Hey Charlyee and others with the Nokia 6131! Can I be a honorary member of the Nokia 6131 club? even though I have a Moto :browani: You guys have all the fun in here! :highclap: :metoo:
Hey Kelli, ofcourse, we all know your heart really belongs to Nokia even though you have a Moto.... I am starting on month six for my 6131 today, and I have still not found anything to complain about or something else I would like to replace it with. I went and played with the Cingular 3125 today, and I found out that out of the box it does not sync with "notes", it needs a third party application. Say what! every GSM Nokia I have had could sync with notes and this is a WM5 Smartphone? That was disappointing and then I also realized that I could only view office documents like WORD & EXCEL but not edit.
I've been having one problem that seems to be happening more often--up to several times a day now. The external display on my 6131 goes blank, and won't mirror the main display, or show any of the screensaver status info until I restart the phone. The mini display will brighten normally when I kick it out of screensaver mode, but it is just a bright blank screen. And when in screensaver mode, it dims but doesn't show the bouncing lcd clock. It's kinda annoying as I rely on the incoming caller ID displayed on the external screen to know if I need/want to interrupt what I'm doing to take the call. Anyone else see this or have any ideas? I can't figure out any predictability to it, like doing some certain series of tasks, or using an app. I am using a custom theme that I built (mirroring the Mac OS X Tiger theme using Litho replacement icons--it's pretty cool, "hey dude, your cell's a Mac!"), but haven't tried the default theme long enough to see if it does the same thing. Jim
I would strongly suggest going to a default theme and seeing what happens, if it continues to happen I would suggest contacting Nokia, usually something like this is a flawed section of Flash Rom which could result from a bad overwrite or the chip has a physical flaw/defect. An easy way to fix this, should it be the first, is to reflash the phone, SonyEriccson has a upgrade utility that does it on their phones, I'm not sure how it would work with Nokia but it's worth looking into.
No, I have no problems with this. I agree that you should go back to a Nokia Theme and start troubleshooting from there. You know the basic rule of troubleshooting: look for the last thing you did before the problem started!
wildrock, sorry I don't have this problem either. I do change themes pretty often but it is either one of the one's on the phone or my "Ferrari" theme from Moto. Please post if you were able to fix it by changing back theme. Good luck.
OK. Thanks guys. I'll drop back to the default theme for a while and see if this changes anything. I probably used the theme for weeks or a month before this problem cropped up though. I'll let you know if it clears up or not. Jim
I drove through the entire state of NJ this weekend (N-S). Around Union, I checked the 6131 out and received the VM icon just fine, along with everything else (caller ID,etc).
FYI from Cingular Knowledge Base Supported Multimedia Message (MMS) file types. NOTE: The maximum size for sending and receiving an MMS message is 300kb. Graphics: MMS can only read certain types of files, some of those are: JPEG (Baseline JPEG) GIF 87a (still images) GIF89a (animated images) WBMP (Wireless bitmap still images) BMP (still images) PNG (still images) WBMP (animated images) Audio files come in several formats. The type of phone used determines the kind of audio files that can be played back. The supported audio formats are: MIDI iMelody AMR SP
Hi Vapor, thanks. My ringtones do fall within the MMS restrictions. Have you been able to send/receive ringtones/sound clips by MMS? If so, can you please post what your settings are? Thanks Much....
Well, I have to post back in the negatory. This morning my 6131 went blank on the mini screen again. I've been using the default theme for 36 hours now, in a default profile, so I guess it's borked. Might look into getting the phone flashed up to 5.5, but I hate to be a naked flasher here :browani: . Might wait until I hear more feedback on problems solved with it. But I haven't heard of this problem anywhere else (read HoFo). Guess I could try a hard reset, if there is a way to do that. I haven't looked into it yet. I guess the upside is I can go back to using my own theme! JIm
Ah thanks Yippee The Nokia looks like a real nice phone, and yes I hold Nokia dear to my heart as I've had a few that just kept going and going...kind've like the energizer bunny. My moto is good... the one thing I really wish it would do that Nokia's do.... is Profiles. I loved on my Nokia that I could make it ring only for contacts I have designated for Family. Like when I go visit my folks, I leave my phone on at night. I have a few friends who calls and leave messages on my phone in the night or really early in the morning on there way to work. So I've been woken up a few times because I can't seem to get it to ring for my hubby (family) only, even though it has the classifications like Family, friends, business, etc. to pick from. Anyway it's a small pain. Sounds like you saw the little changes from the abilities of the Cingular 3125 to your Nokia... it's kind've the same thing as what I'm dealing with-just a different application. Are you use the difference in the case now? (the top flip not being flush with the bottom flip) That was the first thing that got my eye when I looked at the Nokia 6133 at T-mobile the other day.
wildrock, sorry to hear it did not work. I have been thinking about getting the phone flashed to 5.5 but so far I really have not had a reason to, nor do I want to part with it for a week. Shores posted Nokia reset codes here, I am not sure if you read it. I have never hard reset any of my phones (seem to do my PDA quite often though), so no help here... Kelli, Hi, you mean the protruding lower lip, right? Well it reminds me of a bulldog or a dolphin and they are both my favorites so yes I like it . What still bugs me (still no comments necessary Steve) is the flex or side to side play in the closed position...
How long ago did the 5.5 flash come out? I don't think mine will have 5.5 but I'll check when it arrives this week.
This week, WOW bobolito...when, when, when????? I am not exactly sure when 5.5 first came out but the first post referencing to it was on HoFo on 11/08/06.
Yeah, I sent a PM to the guy who posted that, maybe he can tell me how he got his flashed. I'm hoping I can do it myself rather than shipping it to someone.
OK, I did the S40 reset, setting phone back to defaults. No problems with that. I'll see if that changes anything. Thanks for the url, Charlyee, hadn't seen it
Call Timer For those of you who, like me, like a 'call duration' during your conversation, you can go to: menu-log-call duration At the top 'active call duration' is displayed. This only works 'during' your conversation though, meaning you have to go through these steps each time you want the active call timer. I can't believe Nokia didn't allow for this setting to be permanent if a user wanted to do this :loony: This was brought up in howardforums.com & thought I'd bring it up here for those of you who are interested. I just wish we could make this a shortcut--don't think it's possible though
I just noticed that I am having Bluetooth issues with my Moto HS820 headset. the issue is using the voice dialing to place a call (or any voice command). On my 6682, a single "click" of the button on the headset would initiate the voice command feature. I have not had any luck in getting it to work with the 6131. Any ideas/suggestions? Thanks! I assume that you were sending one of the phone ring tones then, or a converted (to another format) MP3 tone? I'll test sending a default tone on my phone.
Anyone know why the holsters sold on Ebay only say for the 6126? None of them say it is for all 3 models: 6126, 6131, 6133. It's as if there is some difference in the body that the phone won't fit in the belt-clip holster on the 6131.
bobolito, Is that from a "How-To" on putting on a new cover/case for the 6131? If so, can you provide the link to the rest of the document/pictures? Thanks!
Vapor, it does not matter which way or what type of ringtone I try to send. I have tried phone to phone, phone to computer and computer to phone. I have tried both Midi and MP3. None of these are the ones that came with the phone or downloaded from Cingular, so they are not proprietary or locked. I would be curious to see what you find out. Thanks much.....
