viewfly, thanks for confirming this. So there should not be any concerns about the screen not lighting up. On mine the screen lights up when I loose signal and stays dimly lit until signal comes back. The screen also lights up when/if it switches between providers. Does yours do this also? Jim, I also use the power button to switch between profiles quickly and love it.
I was playing with the keypad lock. Mine ofcourse is not automatic, but I can activate it from Power button. After the screen greys out, if I push the power button, the "keypad locked" flashes for less than a second and then the full backlight is on with all the same information as on the main screen. Hitting any other button also does the same thing but it is the dim screen not the full backlight.
It's learning little tips like this that make this forum so great! And also further my favorable impressions of this phone. The more I find little features like this, the more I love the 6131. I never held the power button for more than a sec when the screen is greyed out to discover this. When I'd get the "keypad locked" message, I'd just let up on the button. If I wanted to look at the info, I'd open the flip and wait for the keypad lock to unlock, then check the status info. Now I don't have to! While the screensaving info is nice (the minimalist info dimly floating around), I never found myself using it much, as the lighting was too dim, my eyes too bad, or just took too much concentration and effort. So this is definitely a plus! Thanks Charlyee
wildrock, glad you liked the information. Isn't it great that so many of us have it and we are always interested and eager to exchange information on it? As a matter of fact we have one other member soon to join our prestigious group in a couple of days.....
Aw man, 2 weeks with the phone without a vmi (voicemail icon) problem, and now I've had 2 problems in the past 3 days: the icons will not go away after I've deleted a voicemail. I didn't think this would bother me when I heard of this problem, but it does. You never know if you have a new voicemail or not b/c the one won't go away. I have a Cingular 64k sim (living in TX). Also (and it seems as though this occurs when I have the vmi problem), holding down the #1 key to check voicemail does *nothing.* It doesn't connect me to my voicemail. Does anyone have any suggestions? I'm thinking of selling it & buying a 6126 from amazon. Has anyone heard if the 6126 has the vmi problem or not? thanks in advance
I'm sure that you tried powering off the phone, etc. You might want to call Cingular and explain the problem. I had the same problem years ago, and they cleared the VM flag. I think this is a network problem related to the phone, so the 6126 probably will not help since it is not supported by Cingular either. But try Cingular. They will not kill you for having the 6131. The fact that it worked before is a likely sign that this is a simple fix. People with VM issues, don't get any icon at all! vf
maverick22, As viewfly said people with VM problem don't get any indicator not a stuck one. As far as I know that problem is mostly limited to CA and I don't think it was in TX at all. Have you tried leaving yourself a VM and then listening to it and deleting it? You may also try resetting to factory defaults,if you have not highly customized your phone as I have. I also had a stuck VM indicator on a different phone once and Cingular did have to reset it for me. Let us know what you find out. Good luck......
Thanks for the replies viewfly & charlyee. I didn't know the problems were having to do with the icon not showing up. Hopefully ya'll are right, and this problem can be fixed then. Yeah, the only solution right now, which is a pain, is leaving myself a voicemail & then deleting it. It deletes my vm along with the old icon. This is a rather annoying fix though. I'll give Cingular a call Tuesday when I'm off. I've had this happen before also, and the problem eventually went away on its own I believe. I don't remember calling Cingular about it. Thanks again guys. Ya'll are awesome!
So you are having to do this everytime someone leaves you a VM? I only had to do it once to clear the old icon and then everything was fine. If you are having to always do it then yes it is rather annoyng. Since did work before, I am sure it is a temporary problem and hopefully will go away quickly.
Hi, Ok i have some questions about the nokia 6131 hope someone can help me ...my problem is with the bluetooth ....can motorola phones connect or send music files or even pics to the 6131 because i have one of these 6131's and anything i try to send i'm getting operation failed.....is it that moto's and the 6131 cannot send files to each other or is there something wrong with my 6131......... so can someone plz help me
Okay, today my 6131 arrived 1 day early. So that is a great start I say, the phone is a nice phone and felt good in my hand. I like the rubberized edges and backing. I power on the phone and for some reason I could not get past 1 or 2 bars of signal strength, my 6230 seemed to do better than that. I would have kept the phone and gave it a chance, but I am sending it back for the biggest issue which is customer service. I called Worldphone twice because the manual is in every language but English. The first rep says to go to the Nokia site it is only 2 pages, yeah right how do you have a manual for a phone and be only 2 pages? So I hang up I had much bigger issues going on today, I check the Nokia site and there is no 6131 on it there was a 6126 but the manual was 185 pages long which I am not printing out. So I call back a second time and the other rep says they do not have the manual in English, I ask why they would send a phone to a USA address with a non English manual, she could not answer it. What was funny is she asked me what language it was in, I said everything but what I understand.:lmao: Anyway I do not want to be long winded, but the bottom line is Worldphone is sabotaging a sale because they cannot fullfill a simple request.
Well, with a little convincing and much help and patience form a good friend I am going to give the phone a chance. I found the manual on the UK site of Nokia,so I can live with that.
I don't think there is anything wrong with your 6131, I just tried it between my 6131 & my V557 and I got the same result as you. I know the BT on my 6131 works, I use it everyday to sync with my computer, I have also exchanged pictures by BT with a Sprint Treo 650 and also with my PDA. Maybe we are both doing something wrong, anyone else try this? PS: What model Motorola are you trying to communicate with?
I got the same result as you Charlyee, trying to send a 640 x480 photo from my V555 to the 6131. The BT made the connection, but the transfer failed. However, I tried a BT transfer of a photo from the Nokia 6230 to Nokia 6131 and that worked. Must be some protocol problem between the moto and nokia. vf P.S. I know both the moto and nokia phone BT photos fine to a PC. That may be a workaround for the poster: use he pc as an intermediate step to move files over. I've done this before because it is quicker.
Thanks viewfly, I am glad it is not just my phone or the OPs. I always transfer by BT from my laptop to the Moto and Nokia also, which is probably why I never realized that there was a problem in protocol between them. Something strange happened to my phone this morning, when I power cycled it, the ringtone and the message alert tone for "General" went back to the default ones and I had to re-do them. Is it possible that cingular was doing some OTA upgrades that caused the phone to go back to default? Those were the only 2 things that changed, none of my other customization were affected. Or, was it because being Halloween my phone was possed?.....
Hello everyone. I have a quick question. I have a Nokia 6126 and ever since Sunday night I've had the "voice message" yellow envelope icon displayed on my phone. I've checked my messages, but it still stays on the screen. Now what bugs me the most is that when I get a new message, it no longer notifies me! Now I am just stuck with this icon here and no way of knowing whether I actually have messages or not. Can anyone help me? I used to have this problem with my old Nokia, but it would clear itself up once I received a new message. But I've had no such luck with my 6126. Thanks!
The yellow envelope is actually the new text/mms message icon. Did you check to see that you don't have an unread message in your inbox?
Good catch Charlyee, I missed that one. Yes, the VM icon is a white/grey paper scroll looking thing. Looks like this: @___@ The Yellow envelope is for an SMS. Text message. Hope the OP reads yours reply
Thanks viewfly, although when I re-read OP's post this morning, it did sound like he was having the same problem with the VM icon as maverick22. He may have just described the icon incorrectly. PS:I love your sketch but the VM icon is not a "white/grey paper scroll looking thing" . I believe it is the symbol for a old fashioned reel to reel tape recorder, dictaphone, or similar recording device. Just my 2 cents... maverick22, did your VM icon stuck problem get solved?
Yes, yours is probably a correct description. I wasn't thinking of a tape recorder, but a more quaint image of a New England town crier, standing with his parchment paper scroll unrolled, announcing the news of the day.
Hey Charlyee, sorry for the late reply. My computer's been in & out of Best Buy. Anyways, the voicemail icon is now working fine now. I'm just crossing my fingers & hoping the problem doesn't come back. Thanks for the concern.
Hi maverick22, thanks I am glad it is working now, here is my next question: How did it go away? Did Cingular have to do something?-Sorry for asking more questions......
I'm glad to answer any questions, Charlyee...no need to say sorry. I'm usually the one asking the questions & don't have many answers, so I'm glad to help when I can. I didn't have to do anything. The problem was just fixed after those few days (I guess it lasted about 4 days or so). Haven't had a problem since then though! The love I had for the phone is back again!
Charlyee and Viewfly, I've read that the VM icon problem has something to do with what kind of SIM you have. I recently had my SIM replaced and I now have something weird happening on my V635 where the VM indicator works perfectly (goes in and out when it is supposed to) but in addition to that I receive a text message with the @^ symbols after checking my VM. I guess this is the message from the network instructing the phone to clear the VM flag. Although the phone clears the VM icon correctly, I am now receiving the @^ as a text message. Doesn't bother me much since the VM indicator works correctly. So, since I am assuming on both your 6131 phones the VM indicator works correctly, I am just curious what kind of Cingular SIM card do both of you have? I used to have a first generation 64K SIM card that was not 3G. The one I got now is a 3G SIM and it says 64205O on the side where the gold contacts are. What does yours say? Is it 3G or not?
My SIM card is orange 64K more than 2 years old. Certainly not 3G. I read over at HoFo that some of the CA guys were trying 3G SIMS in hope that it would help. But it didn't. But in those cases, it was not the VM flag clearing, but they were not getting any VM icons at all.
bobolito, I started out with a 2+ year old 32K SIM and about a month later switched to the 64K 3G SIM, only because the 32K was physically falling apart. I didn't have a VM indicator problem with either.
