    Charlyee,

Interesting that is the opposite reason people have for using flip phones here...!

I didn't try video MMS to the Nokia, only the other way. I'll give it a try.

I can see that your having fun!

I have noticed on my 6131 that when I put it in my pocket after talking, and then take it out a bit later, there are some keystrokes in the screen: *, #, 7, and occasionaly some others. These keystrokes are recorded before the auto keylock kicks in. What this tells me is that even when the auto keylock is active, keystrokes are happening. I tried just closing the flip and pressing on the lower corners, and I can tell that this is depressing the keys enough to register and get the beep. I'm not sure what this might mean in the long run, but if the keys continually get pressed enough while in the pocket, could this eventually lead to early failure? It seems that the little rubber stops in the lower corner of the flip either aren't stout enough, or weren't constructed big enough to prevent this. I don't know if this is a common problem, or just with this model, or if it will create prolbems down the road, but maybe it's things ike this that the folks in India are referring to. In any case, I still love this phone!

    Microphone discovered!

Guess I was really bored  . I did a search, and couldn't find if anyone else had posted about this yet, but I finally discovered the microphone for the 6131. I was looking at it closely in the sun to see what sort of nicks and scratches and other sorts of use I could find, and then, there it was. The microphone is on the right hand side. It's indented, and has a recessed little screen covering it.
The toothpick is sitting in the recessed area.

    Wildrock,

I can't tell exactly what your pointing to, but it looks like the loudspeaker use for the speaker phone. There has been some speculation that it doubles or the mic is in there too, but no proof yet. Tapping with my pencil, certainly didn't confirm that it a highly sensitive area.

Hi everyone. I'm new here, as you can tell. I have a quick question. I looked through the thread but couldn't find if it has been asked before, so please forgive me if I missed it.

I have the 6126 and I just got my MicroSD so I'm playing around with the videos and media player. My main question is about the media player... how do I fastforward and rewind? There aren't even any buttons like in the MP3 player, so I am a bit confused.

Secondly, is the only video type supported 3GP? This is my first phone with any cool features (my last phone was a Nokia 3100 model) so I'm new to all the multimedia stuff on my cell.

    Thanks!

You're right Charlyee. When I try to send from the V551 to 6131, I receive on the 6131 a message from the V551 that " MMS Adaptation elminated some componets", and I don't get the file.

From what I've read, the Video Adaptation is done on the receiving device or the network: Each device can be different. I tried sending video from the 6230 to 6131...still same message. So the 6131 is not using the US standard or Cingular is not doing the Adaptation on their network for the 6131.

So it is a one way video MMS success. Probably Cingular could fix it, but I will not waste my time trying.

You will find FF and RR icons only in the Music Player Menu. Starting the MP3 directly from the file or in the Media Player does not give that option.

Go to Menu/Media/Music Player. Then use the 5 way controller to select FF or RR and press to advance or reverse. Works the same as a normal mp3.

    Good luck!

I was tapping and scraping on the screen and recording it using the voice recorder. You can play back over the speaker, so it gives quick feedback. Plus I got to play with the VR too  .Seems like you can get good pickup all over the base of the phone, but best through the screen to me. Would be interesting to do a tear down to see what kind of pickup they are using. Could be picking up vibrations through the bottom of the phone, and more directly through the screen. Kind of more like a guitar pickup that converts direct vibrations than a microphone that oscillates.

    OK,

I was way too bored today, and through the power of Google, I managed to sleuth up the following:

Long story short, the microphone is in the upper left hand portion of the base, in the bluetooth antenna assembly. The speaker is behind the screen we can see on the right side, in the antenna module assembly. It also is part of the "acoustic chamber assembly".

And lest I be remiss, and not report my complete findings, there is a very interesting photo of a replacement cover assembly for a 6126 with a Cingular logo on the same site (and some other references to the 6133 and T-Mob) from TESSCO.

    Enjoy,

What a wierd place to put the mic at. I am really interested in finding out the type of mic and how it works in relation to the phone design.

Great find Wildrock !! That confirms my post above were the loudest tapping sound I foundwas near the wrist strap (upper left corner). The exploded diagram will come in handy later, when I may need to replace parts.

    Your're a better googler than I.

    Thanks, VF

Eh, maybe just more bored and persistent...

In any case, I don't know how WA feels about posts like this, but you might find some useful info here. Lots of info in India. Full break out and schematic. Get it while you can.

Definitely a great find Wildrock, finally the mystery of the elusive microphone is solved. Very useful information and schematic. The location of the microphone is pretty unique, it must operate by pickng up vibrations.

Thank you, I am glad you were bored...;)

Ok, the silicone case is coming off, it has loosened even more and is a nuiscance to have to pull it down before I close the flip. One other thing is that I have to take off the top cover before taking a picture or it will block a small part of the lens.

The phone is too sexy anyway to keep it covered...:D

Is anyone tried to view the video files on this phone???
When you viewing the videos is there a landscape mode to view them horisontally and utilize the full screen?
    Thanks!

As far as I can tell there is no landscape mode but only a full screen mode in the potrait mode.

BTW: Welcome to WA, do you have a 6131 or are you thinking of getting one?

    Thanks for your answer!
So as I understud you won't be able to watch movies in the full screen mode (horisontally).
Now I have 6230, and thinking getting another small Nokia with a big screen. 6131 is my first choice, 5300 coming after, it has little bit smaller screen and little bit bigger, but it has a "Video recorder and video player with landscape (horizontal) mode" and theat is what I'm looking into 6131;)
Before I had an e70, it has almost everything, except radio, but it's too bulky and a Simbian OS is way too slow (comparing with 6230) and has a lots of bugs...

Stask1, I don't really watch videos on it but I played one of the pre-loaded video clips and looked into all the options, there does not seem to be any way to go to a horizontal/landscape mode.

Apart from that I can highly recommend the 6131, specially coming from the 6230 as some of us have.

PS: Are you aware that you can send a video message but can not open one received by the 6131?

That really don't bother me. Regular SMS are just fine.
Thanks a lot for your answer!
    Another question I have:
can you fast forward/rewwind videos or only music files (like in the good old 6230)?

Anyone notice that in the "Log" menu, "Dialed Numbers" is spelled "Dialled Numbers"?

UK English spelling or typo? :D

Just noticed it and found it humorous.

Nope sorry, you cannot FF or Rewind videos. The 6131 is extremely similar to the 6230 which is probably why 6230 users like it so much.

I am glad to have been of some help. Please let us know what phone you decide to get.
Hi Vapor, I never noticed that before, and yes it is UK spelling.

So do you still like the phone as much?

Nah, that whacked out spelling has just turned me off too much! :browani: :D

Yes, still love the phone. The "crackling" annoys me more then I care to admit and I miss the better camera on the 6682, but I love the S40 interface and v3 seems to be pretty good. Not to mention that Google Maps, Opera Mini and setting up POP3 e-mail accounts now has me on a data plan as well and using the phone more then ever for data.

Unfortunatley my phone got its first (and probably not last) scrape this week :( It got pushed out of my case and hit the ground hard (pavement). Somehow I managed to do it again going out to my car, but this time it hit the dirt. Of course still works fine. I can't stand "skin" cases so I use a "pouch" style case if any at all. The price I pay I guess.

Yep. I ignored it as another UK English spelling among many in the phone.

On another "Log" note, I have been very annoyed by the fact that the entries in my log file are not sorted very accurately as to time/date. I can't tell if it's the type of entry, or what, but entries over about a three day period of time get intermingled. Frustrating to an obsessive compulsive person like myself that likes to look through the log to remind myself of whom I have to call back, or about appts. that I've forgotten to add to my calendar.:O

Lol Vapor, there is plenty of "whacked out" spelling on that phone. Since I learnt UK English first, and even now if I am not careful, I don't always spell the US way, the words don't jump out at me as much.

Sorry to hear that you dropped your phone, amazingly I didn't have any mishaps with it during my vacation and I am definitely a klutz. I never heard any pop or crackle in the 900/1800 countries. I am fortunate I am mostly in a 1900 area specially from home so I very rarely hear it here either. Well tomorrow my 6131 will be 4 months old...:D
wildrock, I am not sure what you mean, the call logs are in descending order of date and time on mine. What other log are you referring to?

My main Call Log, the one that is a collection of all the other logs, doesn't sort properly by date and time. It seems to be a preponderantly descending order, with out of order entries mixed in. For instance, today's entries are interspersed with a few entries from yesterday. Yesterday's main body of entries has a bunch of stuff from a day and two days before that. And on it goes down the list. I can't see any rhyme or reason to it, depending on the kind of entries they are. Confusing, as I really like to use the main Call Log. Kind of a memory recall device.

Looking at it closer, the Call Log consists of a collection of the Missed Calls, Received Calls, and Dialled Calls logs. Individually, the three separate Logs all sort properly. When they get combined into the Call Log, they don't necessarily get combined in descending order. For instance, yesterday I got a missed call. I called the person back later. In my Call Log, it shows the Missed Call most recent, then some calls from the day before, then my return call to the missed call, logged in the Dialled Call last. Make sense? It's weird. My return call is sorted in the list (with correct time stamp) after the missed call.

Yes, it does make perfect sense and you are right that is what it does. The reason I never noticed it is I always went into the individual call logs and like you said those are in descending order. Weird, I wonder why the main call log is not.

Speaking of the call log, is there any way to set that as a shortcut? I know you can do the individual calls (dialed, missed, received) as shortcuts, but I can't seem to find a way to use the total call log as a navigation shortcut.

Nope sorry, there does not seem to be any way to make the call log set to a shortcut or to the "Go To" Menu".

wildrock, have you also noticed that if you delete a number from the individual call logs it still remains on the total call log but when you try to get details on it it says "contacts not ready". I actually like this since I always hit delete too quickly and then sometimes regret it. You and I are using it for different purposes, I wonder what Nokia wanted us to use it for?

viewfly, please save me from having to read the manual and let me know what the manual has to say about call log....:D
