I've read reviews that said they broke within a day, some screens went white after 1 month, some screens got blobs of the leaked liquid, but only 1 said his lasted. Do you know if its a good phone or not?
I don't know where you read this from, but I can tell you as an owner of a 6101, 6102i, and 6103, that this is one of Nokia's most solid flip phones, as well as their first. If you mistreat the phone, then yes you may encounter some of the issues you read about, but I still have the 6101 and it's just fine. The 6103 actually has a better type of housing (IMO) than the 6101. I love these phones. They're very good for a basic phone. Excellent signal and sound quality. No phone is perfect, but this is a good phone I would recommend to anyone. Get a case for extra protection.
I've been using the Nokia 6103 with TMobile for about 2 months now, and haven't encountered any of these problems so far. IMO, the Nokia 6103 is one of TMobiles best basic handsets. Likes: Great reception, the keys are well spaced making it easier to text message on, very good call quality, nice UI menu that makes it easy to navigate, takes very good pictures for only having a VGA camera, light weight and durable, bluetooth worked well with both of the Motorola headsets that I tried with it. The outside is rubberized making it easier to hold on to. Dislikes: Lack of memory!! If you need a phone that holds a lot of ringtones, MP3's, games, ect.., then this is not the phone for you. If Nokia had included a memory card slot on the 6103, it would be the perfect handset.
Well said, MP. This is so true. Considering the 6103 is a mid-level phone, I'm not surprised it doesn't have a memory card slot, but I agree, it would be perfect if it did.
Isn't the 6103 not even manufactured by Nokia, but by another manufacturer and just re-badged Nokia? Seems to me that I recall it being manufactured by BenQ.
No. The 6103 is definitely manufactured by Nokia. The box, manual, and the phone itself all have Nokia printed on them.
Not necessarily meaning that they're made by Nokia. Of course if it has Nokia branded on it you're going to get a box and manual by Nokia. It doesn't mean that the phone couldn't be manufactured by another company. Sears washing machines may say Kenmore all over them, but they are manufactured by Whirlpool. Hotpoint refrigerators and stoves may say Hotpoint all over them but they are manufactured by General Electric.
lol, if I wanted to talk about appliances , I would have joined an appliance forum. Getting back on topic here, as Mike and I have already said, the 6103 was manufactured by Nokia, and unless you can provide us with information that would indicate other wise, lets drop it. I could care less about who manufactures my phone anyway, as long as it does what it was made for.
True, but the Nokia branded Pantech phones are obviously not Nokia. There are certain little physical differences with the phone that are not Nokia-like. Besides, Nokia is only doing this with CDMA phones. GSM phones are their bread and butter.
I may have mis-spoke about the 6103 but as you said Pantech is manufacturing handsets for Nokia for CDMA models. I was just going by what I remembered. I may have not remembered correctly.
When you become moderator of this forum then you can tell someone to drop it. Until that time comes you should really restrain yourself. When you can prove to me that you have 100% memory for everything that you've ever seen or heard come back to us and proove it.
the screens are very delicate as has been said but the internal hardware as well as the software////firmware is of good quality
I would think ALL phone screens are delicate to some degree. I've always been careful with my phones so I've never had a screen issue develop (especially with the 6101/6102/6103 phones). The 6131 has the most delicate screen I've ever seen on a phone.
i think the nokia flips that ive encountered have a much more delicate screen than other..........cuz the screen covering is soft not hard like other screens
Newer flips have these new super-thin screens on them. The 6126/6131/6133 series was the first of them to be released.
yeah with a much more delicate lcd................the screen color and resolution is good but the more appealing they are the higher the price
Nokia no longer manufactures CDMA phones for the U.S. market. I've read that Pantech now manufactures CDMA phones for Nokia.
It is in the sense that it's slightly more advanced. Screen resolution on both the front and inner displays is much better, there is a new Series 40 interface, megapixel camera, EDGE capable, and a few other little improvements. But the 6103 kills the 6133 in battery life.
Or more a way for Nokia to still have their name on CDMA phones. Pantech markets their phones under their own name for GSM.
I was wondering the same thing about any of the Nokia flips.....all of my previous stand up Nokia's have been extremely durable........For myself signal strenght and call quality are my most important needs since I'm not dependant on my phone for anything but talking.I will probably stay with a stand up phone but had thought about a Nokia flip phone.
