A good friend of mine just got a Nokia 2610 from E-Bay. When he gets a text message the caller ID just shows the number and not the name even though the name is in his contact list. Is there some setting to rectify this? Thanks much.
The name shows up with a call from the same number. He is checking with some of his other contacts. Thanks for looking into this for me.
It could be that 2610 is "too simple" to bother looking up the names for text messages, I was suspecting a double entry along the lines of having the same contact in both phone memory and SIM or the same number in several entries (ICE & wife, etc.)
Thank-you Charlyee and Dmitry for your assistance, I appreciate it very much. And Charlyee...... don't be fresh.
Wirelessly posted (Treo 750: Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows CE; IEMobile 7.6) UP.Link/6.3.1.17.0) You are very welcome Joe. Unfortunately for you the 2610 is a rather rugged phone, so you will not be able to destroy it as easily as you have all your other ones lately
The usual reason for this is that you have that number listed for two different contacts. I know for instance that just calling by number to my brother will only show his number since I have him listed in my contacts twice once under his name and another time as an ICE number. Odds are that you have that particular number in more than one place in your contacts.
Thank-you Charlyee, but you never know there is always a method to my madness even though I don't know what it is myself most of the time.:browani:
I take it your post is meant as illustration of how the same information appearing in two different places can be confusing
One other issue that also seems to be occuring is duplicate and incomplete text messages. Ever since I started to use my 2610 my Cousin who has VZW and lives in Texas has told me she is getting duplicates only from me, and I do not get her whole message at times. So I don't know if it is a network or phone issue with either her or I.
One thing I need to add and what makes me laugh though is all the features they put in this phone and it has no memory. GPRS is painfully slow so what is the point of mobile e-mail and shop for graphics and tones,IM etc.? And what's up with the music file?? Try downloading a music file it stops dead in it's tracks and says not enough memory.....no really?? when I do install some pics from my SE it makes me delete them or I will not get my texts, boy I miss my SE. This phone is good if you want a reliable phone only with crystal clear calls and great reception, typical of Nokia.
