I live in one of the TINY areas in illinois that AT&T doesn't cover. I moved here after having Cingular for years. They gave me the runaround for a year that they would be covering our area soon but have now given up on it. Is there ANY cheap/affordable way to increase my signal as it is only 1-2 bars max. I don't want to go to the hassle of changing services. Any advice given would greatly by appreciated. Thanks

When you say cheap, not sure how much money your talking about. A repeater system would be the best way to improve your signal in the house, they run around $200.00 to $300.00 for the system & are easy to do & it's a wireless system so your not tethered by an antenna cable to the phone.

It can take a carrier up to 4-5 years to get a tower up, depending on the local zoning laws & if they have to fight it in court to get approvals, so they may have a desire to put up a tower, but it's not a fast process.

Has anyone here actually tried one of these setups? I get good signals in my yard etc.. but only 1-2 bars and dropouts in the house. Would be worth the cash if they work well.

If you have a landline, you could forward your wireless calls to it when you are home. Are you sure that the signal you are receiving is from AT&T? It could be from a roaming partner. You could run the risk of excessive offnet roaming if you spend the money to boost the signal at home. Having a repeater at home would not help you when you go elsewhere.

Yes I get at&t @ the house. Never had a roam in 4 years here. just my house seems to be in one of those dead spots. I can go inside a house 200 yards down the road and it's fine, in my yard is fine just inside the house drops off

STICK THE PHONE IN THE WINDOW SEAL AND USE A BLUETOOTH HEADSET..

It's probably something to do with your building structure.

That's what I did when I lived in a basement apartment. I left the phone by the window and used BT. It was the easiest and cheapest solution.

You do realize that your phone will say "AT&T" no matter who the actual wireless carrier is? If AT&T has no sites in your area, the signal cannot be coming from them. What is the ZIP Code in question?

If you have an AT&T SIM card in an AT&T-branded phone, the display of the actual wireless network is suppressed. The actual network name is only displayed when you are roaming internationally.

At your location, you might also pick up Canadian carriers. Then you would have international roaming charges. There is no other United States carrier in your area except T-Mobile and AT&T probably has no roaming agreement with them at your location.

honestly 1-2 bars in the house isnt bad. thats all i have and i never dropped a call in my house. then again it will depend on the condition of your network up there id guess.

Some high security facilities block wireless signals to prevent the transmission of classified or sensitive information.

I don't think active jamming is going on. When I worked on Quantico there was almost no in building coverage because there were no towers on the base. Add to that most of the buildings were made of thick brick or concrete with metal roofs, its no wonder that phones didn't work inside. The buildings were built in the 40's & 50's to protect the people inside from possible radiation from nuclear attack.
