unlimited nmights and weekends for no charge would really give Cingular a run for their money........now they just need to add free unlimited M2M on the prepaids.......then Cingular and T-Mobile will be head2head
I asked today when I was in what the status was. He said they(t-mo) decided not to go with it. --- according to what they said. I guess they were testing in some other country.... who knows.??? shall just have to see if anything happens
I'm glad TMobile decided not to go with this. Although it would be nice to see N&W on prepaid, it wouldn't cost effective if I had to pay the $1/day fee just to get it.
T-Mobile Croatia is offering free weekends on their own prepaid service, but there appears to be some fees involved. See this for more information. This is also my 900th post on WirelessAdvisor!
Thanks for sharing! That must have been the "test" country I was told about around a month ago or so. I wonder if it's doing any good? as the SA said the other day that T-Mo decided not to bring it here..... Congrats on your 900th post! Yeah!
The article was dated March 1, so I guess that if it was being tested initially, they have decided to roll it out nationwide over there.
I agree, but considering a gold customer can get service with them for as little as $10 a year, TMobile would never throw in free N&W too.
idk............that would present some heavy competition if they added unlimited free M2M and N&W..........everyone would go T-Mobile because they get the same or more than GoPhone for less
This would mean plan changes for TMobile and I wouldn't want that. The only way TMobile would make back any money on these added features would be to they increase their price plans on their prepaid service in order to accommodate the cost factor. As I said before $10/year is the cheapest PP service you can get right now.
They charge allot for it too. The cheapest PP Go Phone plan that a person can get with unlimited nights and weekends with free M2M is $69.99.
Thanks. I don't know if you can compare the Pick Your Plan (which is the only one that has unlimited N&W) to a true prepaid service that T-Mobile To Go is... it's a different animal.
the $1 charge completely defeats the purpose of prepaid...........hehe cuz you end up paying at least $30 as it is.........
I agree. The only reason that I can think of to go with a PP service like this one would be if a person would have to pay a deposit due to poor credit. $1/day, plus .10cents/min is just not worth it.
Cingular has 2 Pay Per Use plans, one is 25 cents/min and the other being 10 cents/min + $1.00 only on the days that the phone is used. The second plan can be beneficial under specific circumstances.
These two plans also don't have Unlim. N&W. I know the $1/day only when you use the phone does give you M2M, it is still more expensive to use than TMobile To Go.
You're either going to get cheap regular minutes or you're going to pay for nights and/or weekends. No prepaid service offers nights and weekends for free and if they offer it they make you pay a daily fee for it. If you want such a plan there are at least a few that will give it to you for free or reduced rate but only if you're willing to pay a daily fee. Many prepaid users (myself included) want a cheap way to make voice calls when we want to and don't want to spend $30 a month for prepaid since it defeats the whole purpose that many of us have for a service for occasional use yet at a decent per minute rate.
The real problem is the lack of variety in prepaid offerings. If I look at prepaid offerings in Russia, they have plenty of options to suit different needs plans with emphasis on text, time of day, in-network calling, etc. They are all prepaid... and there are tons of them. Here the fear of having the carrier discontinue an existing option when they introduce a new one is very real.
It's all well and good to say that they do things a different way in Russia, Europe or Asia, but we're dealing with the way the US prepaid operators have chosen to do things. My wish is that they don't make prepaid into a poor man's service for those who cannot get credit to use a billed service.
Agreed, I was just giving an example of how it could be done We don't know whether T-Mobile would replace one offering with another but T-Mobile operates in Europe and knows how to do prepaid (BTW, the Russian carrier I spoke of is or at one time was a T-Mobile affiliate), so chances are they won't mess up the good thing they have going any more than they have already.
