About a week ago I got myself a nice new computer. After almost 20 years of having Dells, I got an HP. My last Dell was really getting old and slow, but I kept holding on because I knew it would be a nightmare switching all my files and programs to a new computer. And, it was a nightmare! I did a lot of this .... and I did learn a few things. - Move your files over to a new computer, but NOT your programs or settings. It is way too much hassle to get all the old stuff running correctly. Some things worked, but installing fresh is better. - Restore points are a miracle! If something doesn't work right, roll back and try something else. Now that the switching nightmare is over, I'm very happy with my new HP!
I can imagine it's a pain to move all the files over, I plan on getting a seperate HD for my files so if something happens I have them all on the backup drive. The last time I got a new computer I never tried to move the programs over, & it sounds like its a good thing i didn't, otherwise I would have been doing the same words you did. :lmao: So you like the HP so far? I have been leary of them from their past issues, but I do know they are different now then back then.
Yup... I've got an 80GB external and I'm thinking about moving to a 320GB external to keep my music, pictures and video on. That way, if I upgrade my PC, I can just move any files I need to the external HD and plug it into the new PC. I had a heck of a time uploading pictures to photobucket and then re-downloading them to my new PC after I upgraded last time. Never again.
I'm also shopping for a new computer and am definitely not looking forward to moving all my files over. I'm glad the new computer is working out well for you though at least after all the hassles, lol.
Joe glad to hear things went well you know I have dells and love them why did you want to go from dell? Also how is the new phone coming alongl.
It sounds like Vitumonde to me. This nasty bit of adware attaches itself to your Win32 and fools your os into thinking it is just another Windows server. This is missed by most security programs for this reason, and duplicates with every reboot.
I can tell you with 15 Dell computers at my store that they are great computers till they break then you have to deal with tech support in India. I once had the one site service fixing a system and another went down. He couldn't fix it because he didn't have the parts, or a work order. He did look at it though and diagnosed a bad hard drive. He said call tech support and tell them the hard drive failed, trouble code ... anyway when I called tech support they still insisted I stay on the telephone for over an hour going through their flowchart before they determined that this was correct. -Jay
