What do Nextel towers look like? Supposidly there is one in an area near to me and i wondered how'd i recognize it? I did see this high tower looking thing (LOL) that was white and red in the area, so i wondered if that was it.
Varies from MArket to Market. In Virginia, NE NC, DE, MD and DC they like to use four antenna per sector. These are generally from Andrews. Medium aged sites use antenna that are short. Newer sites (in Virginia) use really long antenna from Andew. Older antenna were provided by Allgon (now Powercell or something) in the Norfolk/Richmond market and EMS Wireless (angled blocky antenna) in the Washington/Baltimore market. Electronics are normally stuff in a shelter. Cabinets are very rare. Shelter vendor varies from market to market and from site to site sometimes. Andrew was a big shelter provider for Nextel in Norfolk-Richmond. In Washington, DC this stuff is all off. It could be Andrew, someone else or even a cabinet. Not really helpful. Sorry. If you post some pictures of sites in question I can try to apply my "traing eye".
ok just because your name sounds so darn cute !!! heres a gimmie http://www.927.org/nextelsites This site will open a rather large pdf file containing a listing of every nextel cell site in the US extracted from the FCC database(warning it ain't perfect). The list is by state then by county and site addresses Mike Oxford GA
Nextel towers are very easy to spot here in So. Cal. They have some unique characteristics. I'll try to take some pics next time I'm out and post them. They also have many of their antennas on Spectrasites owned towers.
I'm thinking that what i thought may have been the Nextel tower might infact not be it. It looked nothing like the pictures i've seen. Wish i could take a picture to show it to you guys but all i can say is it's tall skinny and painted red and white. lol. Another question on a side but same note lol our Nextel store said that Sprint and Nextel merged but Partners (which is us) are a different part of it and are still on their own. So now with that said i guess they won't be changing any towers in the islands because of that? I'm confused! lol :lmao:
Well this list is interesting indeed & might answer a question I was wondering. I see they have a license for a tower that Sprint put up around a year ago & Verizon just put an antenna on it as a 2nd antenna & there is 2 or 3 additional electrical meter openings at the site, I know my Nextel coverage is low where I live & maybe they will be putting a set on this tower. Thanks for the link
