I have seen some images of that thing (actual pics of a demo unit) and it is pretty nice. Like a color v60, but a little larger. This phone appears to go away from Nextel's traditional offerings of "rugged" phones and into the realm of "fancy" phones. It is interesting because Verizon has clearly chosen "fancy" for it's PTT and Sprint's first phones will be more on the "rugged" side.

Delta said that he heard that the A690 might have a rubberized coating on the outside, which would give verizon a more rugged phone to go along with the "fancy" v60p.

True. I guess I was thinking it still "looks" fancy as opposed to looking rugged. Not that I think that is a bad thing.

Nextels phones have to be rugged because people get so frustrated with their lack of coverage and poor service even when you have coverage that they throw them.

Been there and done that the Motorola I700+ I use for work is so RESILIENT. I literally saw my co-workers drop from off a boom lift about 30 feet in the air and it still works. Nextel coverage and service sucks though.

i think if thats the case, verizon may want to introduce a rubberized case for the t720, which i can assure you is worse than any nextel phone, even with the nextel service.

the v60c and i, although "fancy" do hold up well (with the exception of the antenna). i have seen some that are pretty beat up and continue to work fine. i asked my friend at nextel about the new handset, he said it is really pretty nice and that you can do a lot of cool stuff with the GPS on this one. He said he has been testing it for a few months, and expects it to be out in october.

Aint that the fricking truth! And Rallykid, your comment was funny as H#ll!! As far as this new Nextel goes..good for them. They have had the ugliest, bulkiest, phones for the longest time. I'm sure since it's a Nextel you can drop it off the Statue of Liberty and it will be just fine. Back to VZW...things are happening. Flags are popping up like crazy in my little network I have built. I can't wait for them to launch it so I can tell you all about it! I can almost smell it....maybe I'll stay up tonight to see if the website changes after midnight.

They two blue phones are pretty bad. Nothing too wrong with the phone on the left. Reminds me a little of my old Timeport 270c, one of the best phones ever. [IMG]

I will say this DandyD...although my own proclivities towards Nextel are widely known and often lamented pieces of penal lore...(name that movie!)...Your new phones look a hell of a lot more interesting than what you have now. It's about time they jumped on the bandwagon. All they need now is about 20,000 more towers and more reasonable credit checks and I would have to stop picking on them.

Yeah..I'm still alive. I came to peace with it last night. I thought "There's no way they will launch on a Friday". But Other events keep me going...I'll be looking foreward to tuesday now.

My icon stops flashing after a period of time, I didn't change it.

No..but it would make perfect sense. It already has the same speakers in place as the V60p. The 270c was a GREAT phone. Be nice if they slimmed it down just a hair. I would be stoked about a 270p. Best speakerphone EVER.

given that the send/end buttons are on the non-motorola sides though, there is cause for hope

I know I'd shure as heck like 50% off my Verizon bill!..on the note of this phone, why would Nextel now be going to "fancy" phones? It seems to take them off their beaten path of rubberized, rugged, bulky phones that mother's can throw at their attackers when need be...? Any thoughts?

I hear Nextel's new top of the line phone the i730 is gonna be in the price range of $400-$500. I've heard this from serveral people. Don't know where they get the info from so take it for what it's worth. But when the i95 is $299.99 right now. With them releasing somethin new and big. The price will probably be jacked up just cause the phones they use tend to be a little expensive.

Goodman: Not to barge in, but, I pay $62/mo (my plan with taxes etc.) and 50% off would be a great thing! And yes, I do use my phone a ton just as you. [IMG]

I guess it would be better to say I pay $65/mo since the extra $20 comes from a second line, which is something GoodmanR wouldn't have to worry about. I would consider myself lucky if I could get awesome cell service on a $90 plan for $45.

Shoot...I pay over $100 for 2 phones, AND I still have my agent line with the 3000 anytime minutes.
Collectively, I have 3800 anytime 1000 m2m, Unlimited N+W...add my girlfriends line and it becomes 4100 anytime, 2000 m2m, Infinate N+W. Then add to that the PTT minutes I'll have.

Needless to say, I never pick up a normal phone.

Well see? Delta's got it all.. [IMG]. NO WONDER I CAN'T GET A BETTER RATEPLAN, DELTA'S HOGGIN ALL THE ANYTIME MINUTES!!?!?! [IMG]. No, but seriously, if I was offered to have half of my bill paid every month, I would sure as heck take it, and I wouldn't pay the $500.00 (give or take) for this new Nextel phone...it's definietely not worth it.
