Yes, if that were the case ... I would HEAR AND SEE THEM LOUD AND CLEAR!!!

Unfortuntately I guess they're not gonna market cellular service like beer commercials.

I spend most of my time in New York and i had nextel for a total of 2 years until i got fedup with all of the crap.

Customer service are totally incompetent (Had to call 2 times firsts time to make changes and 2nd time to confirm that it was done properly)
Calls Dropped quite frequently (Yes they are improving but they are not there yet)
Walkie talkie was nice when it worked
At times my phone was ready with full signal and the callers will be sent to voicemail
At times people complained that they called my cell and received a bussy signal
At times when I tried to make a call i will get "call failed" "Try again" etc..etc..etc../
Nextel charges extra fees on the bill
Tried to open a family plan which is non existent you need to open 2 accounts with 2 diferent plans
My calling plan was the best I have ever had 1200 peak mins unlimited incoming unlimited offpeak unlimited walkie talkie for 69.99

So there i had nextel for 2 years and I have tons of friends that have nextel so I have great knowledge about nextel.

So I did my research and opened a Real Family share account with Verizon Wireless

Customer service is great (They don't give bonus minutes but they get what ever you want done or fixed)
No walkie talkie yet but its coming soon
    NO dropped calls
I receive all of my calls when my phone is on
All of my calls go out (digital and Analog)
A little bit less minutes but I get to use my minutes

So there now I have a phone that does what its supposed to do I receive all of my calls I can make all of my calls with no problem whatsoever its a beautifull. I understand that every company has some problems here and there but nextel is totally screwed up
maybe in the near future they will get better but for now I really don't recommend them to anybody.

Go with verizon if you need a phone that is functional or go with nextel is you need a phone that is partly function with walkie talkie your choice......

Ahhhh nice to see so many of Verizon's lead cheerleaders here. Service providers are more a personal choice, if a user says it works for them great, if not then another provider will be more than happy to pick up the slack. What is the most confusing is its only a cellular service nothing else, yet when someone says anything good or bad about verizon or any other provider there are always these VZN cheerleaders that can not handle anything but their own views. Kinda the same BS attitude Verizon is putting off these days, which has building ever since the change from the BA days. Oh well every provider has their days, some will grow, some will not.

i agree Verzion has some of the best coverage out there and the most users (loyal) by far. But if history serves us right, all great things must come to an end. Verizon is on a steady increase, but like the stock market, there will be a drop off point. remember rules of business for all you educated people out there. Anything that grows to fast in too short a time (as i feel Verizon has tried to do) will suffer the utter consequences. This will either be through a buy out or merger that will go sour.

You sound like some customers I have had over the years, they had the same attitude and opinion. Most of the time it was because Nextel turned their phones off due to non payment. These customers still bad mouth Nextel ever since, not letting go of a grude.

let go.... just let it go..

    haha

yes actually i did have nextel for quite some time. all my friends had them and said how great they are. so i tried it out for a bit. And i live in jersey by the way. number one. the signal was not anywhere near what i wanted and expected.

    2) it didnt work in my house
    3) direct connect drove me thru the roof the beeping was enough to drive my partially insaine
    4) direct connect barely worked and when it did it was plastered with static
    5) i gave nextel a good chance i made them replace the phone and it helped a bit but
i still had the same issues but to a lesser degree.
    6) after that i had cingular. still no house signal but when it worked it was clear
    7) now verizon comes along i have clear calls, signal in my house and in ALOT of places that noneof my other cells worked.

I have both. In Northern MA, NH VT & ME, Nextel blows; VZ rocks.

Is that the best you can do DandyDon to defend Nextel I left nextel by choice because of their lack of service and support simple as that. If you want to defend nextel I want you to proof me wrong? that is what you should of done in the first place instead of wasting my time with your ignorant post as usual trying to divert the attention away from the problems.

sorry to waste your precious 12.5 seconds of your time when reading my ignorant posts,............................as usual I was trying to divert the attention away, ....................... not trying to proof you wrong.

my bad. but you still seem to be so hostile, angry, and bitter.... jeeezz. take it easy bro.

Everyone has an opinion, and most who bash Nextel don't have it currently. You don't find nearly the amount of Verizon bashing from Nextel users. Bottom Line; look at churn. Nextel reported 1.9 last Q to Verizon's 2.1? Ask CURRENT customers of the service for each carrier about their opinions.

You need to decide what's important to you, take advise as that, and if you can test each for yourself.

There are holes in Pa. for Nextel, here in Southeastern Pa. as well as in the area west of Reading Pa.

The direct connect is annoying to others, I agree. It overwhelms the privacy of everyone in any public place. Tacky! Of course there are those with regular cells who broadcast their conversation to an entire mall or restaurant too. BUt with Nextel you get both sides of a conversation that you may rather not want to hear. I wish VERIZON would forgo the Walki TACKY!

well i have verison right now live in cheshire ct thats right between new haven and hartford. i have had manby problems with verizon her is a like to one of my recent problems verizon granted verizon has the best server coverage but there phones ar horibible. i have been with them for severial years and my first phone was the star tac went through about 6 of them (cause they do that dam refurb thing which means phones are not fixed) then i had the v60i and went through 3 of them in 1 month i had to scream and yell about geetting a new phone. i should not have this hassel. my point is the coverage is also as good as the phone is. if the phone sucks the coverage is gonna suck.

Bottom line, every carieer has there horro stories and there fans. All i know is untill Verizon stops being as rock stable as your average well managed Linux/BSD server, I ain't changin.
