Nextel Partners Exceeds Subscriber Predictions By Kristy Bassuener January 29, 2002 Despite a U.S. slowing trend in new mobile phone subscribers, Nextel Partners managed to meet expectations. Nextel Partners, a Nextel Communications affiliate, added 81,700 new users in the fourth quarter -- slightly higher that the company's own predictions of 78,000. The newcomers bring Nextel Partners' subscriber total to 515,900. Revenue for the quarter rose to $120.7 million, compared with $53.3 million in the year earlier quarter. Net loss widened slightly to $78 million, or 33 cents per share, compared with $75 million, or 32 cents per share one year earlier. For the sixth time in a row, Nextel Partners posts a low, 1.6 percent churn rate. Average revenue per user was nearly $70 during the quarter. Shares in the carrier rose 2.6 percent to $7.15.
